07-28-2011  Had the same problem.  When I contacted HP Support, had to talk to an "expert" by the name

of Sam In India (!).  After half an hour on the phone and Sam consulting his supervisor, I was told that my

Monitor had a serious problem and I needed to replace it with one at a "discounted" cost of $130, what I declined.

This also shows to me what we get with "Outsourcing" .

Thanks for your answer, i.e. solution

Thank you GOLDENBOYWPG --- i have been trying to turn my monitor off for 6 month or more.  Thought I tried everything but and maybe I did but I didn't hold switch long enough.  Guess I am too impatient.

Thanks again!!!!:

My monitor will not power off.  The power button lockout appears.  I tried holding power button, unplugging monitor, and removing cable. Nothing seems to work.  I am not pleased with  my HP monitor.  This should not be a problem.  Hope you can be helpful, thanks.

The was a great help!

If the power button on your HP monitor won't switch off, hold it for 30 secs & hey presto!
