I have the same PC and bought the same graphics card only to experience the same problem as you.  Have you found any solutions yet?  I've read that an update to the BIOS might be needed, but i didn't see any updates available.  My experience with troublshooting software/hardware is about 15 years, so i feel comfortable experiementing and trying different things.  I'm just out of ideas though.

Hi @L3Nix,

I reviewed the post. There are several factors involved as you know. The bios can be updated from this link: http://hp.com/drivers. However may not be the latest. I would suggest that you check with a technician locally to try and correct the situation.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

 If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care and do have a blessed weekend. 🙂

Hey L3Nix, no, as you can see from my posts, I've tried updating the BIOS, it only has an update to April 2012 & that brought it up to 7.16... I've cleared the CMOS, removed the battery, cleaned & moved around the RAM, etc, etc (everything I've tried I've listed here) & as you can see here noboby from HP seems to have an answer except to go talk to bestbuy/whomever...

Why doesn't anyone from HP have an answer or can help?! :indifferent: We had the PC custom built THROUGH HP, this shouldn't be THIS hard, I TRULY am at a loss here & don't know what else to do, return the card, is it defective, IDK, I don't have another PC to check it in & if you have the same system & are having the exact same issue then it's obvious the internet & the 'experts' are wrong & don't know what they're talking about either...

Do you have any more info that I don't have listed here that could help? Have you tried other cards? Or any ideas as what the next step should be, I'm out so much money now & nothing to show for it, this whole thing has been such a COMPLETE nightmare! :HalfEyes:

I could go talk to bestbuy & probably be out more money, but I highly doubt they'll know or do anything but look at me with a blank stare, or tell me to contact HP... :indifferent:

& Round & Round we go... :Crying:

Hi, @LizzieBorden

In reference to your request to have me look through your post...

IMO, both of those video cards you bought are way too new for the older BIOS your PC has (and no BIOS update available will remedy that problem).

You would be much better off buying another AMD Radeon HD 6670 to replace the one that died on you.

Check eBay, and most likely you can get either new old stock or used but tested and working cards for a reasonable price.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=Radeon%20HD%206670&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1&_tr...

You will also have to uninstall any previous graphics drivers you installed before installing the replacement video card.

Thank you SO much Paul for reading my posts, I'm SO grateful, I'm gonna do exactly that then, & pray that the 3rd times a charm...

I am TRULY grateful for your answer, I wish I would have known weeks ago that I should just get the same card & I wouldn't have to have gone through all this heartache... TY, TY & I'll update again if/when I get my hal up & running again! :indifferent:

Ok sorry one last question please, the broken card is an 'ATI AMD Radeon HD 6670' now does the replacement one have to be an 'ATI AMD" or can it be other brands I'm seeing, there seem to be MANY different models of the HD 6670? :indifferent:

You're very welcome.

Please do.

You should be able to get any of the ones listed.  They vary by manufacturer and memory size (1 GB, 2 GB).

The 6670 GPU is an AMD/ATI standard.

ATI used to be the name AMD gave to their graphics products.

Now everything is AMD (processors, chipsets, graphics), and some folks still use the names interchangably.

@LizzieBorden

I have a feeling its the motherboard.  I've tried a different PC, while over at a friends house, and it did work on his system.  I saw Pauls message, so i need to look into the card he recommended, and possibly looking into replacing the motherboard.

Thank you guys for replying!!!!  I honestly expected to get no replies, at least not this soon.  So i really apreciate the feedback.

@Paul_Tikkanen

Do you have any recommendations for a motherboard and cpu replacement? I prefer the Intel core i5 cpu's when compared to AMD's offerings.  Unless AMD has something similar.  If you able to offer any suggestions, i greatly appreciate your time and help.  Thank You!

@Paul_Tikkanen makes an excellent evaluation of the problem.

The computer, HP h8-1150CTO is 2011 tech, and is WIN 7 technology, and alas is what is called a Legacy BIOS.  It can not be upgraded to the newer UEFI BIOS (sept 2012) that is required by the newer GPU cards.  That said, it's the problem. The only solution is a GPU released prior to Jul 2012 (to be safe).  That fits the EVGA GTX 670 on the max end,  but then I would recommend a Corsair CX600 PSU.

@LizzieBorden,

 Sorry you felt compelled to hi-jack a post.

As Paul said, you could just locate another HD 6670 card, it's suitable with your existing hardware/OS/BIOS.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Hi, @L3Nix :

Unfortunately, I do not have any motherboard replacement suggestions for you.

I have only replaced motherboards on HP business desktop PC's, and only with the same model that I replaced it with.
