I think you are saying the right thing, that the battery is dead. Or maybe its having an error. If i turn on the system it shows battery not present. But after leaving it plugged in for a while(the system being on) if i disconnect the Ac adapter it wont go off, it wld even last for over an hour without any plugged in Ac adapter. Do i go for a new battery?

There could be an issue with something else causing the battery not to charge. I can not be sure a replacement battery will resolve your issue.

Here is a link concerning battery testing. I'm not sure what operating system you have but you can select it at the bottom of the document and it will show you how to test the battery.

I have done all this and the power works fine.  However, when I unplug the unit again after using it the light flashes and I have to reset it all over again.  I replaced the mobo battery as well.  Does anyone have more suggestions?  Once I reset the power I can use the unit without issue.  But, if the power goes out or I have to unplug the unit I have to reset it again.  I don't want to have to reset it everytime I unplug it.

I think while the affor mentioned solutions work well for most, there are occasions, like mine a few minutes ago, that these solutions have no affect... I had forgotten this other method until GOOGLE jogged my memory...lol... I linked a video to it but it is so simple you probably don't need it...

It requires you to pull the mobo cable, with the power supply still plugged in, and getting a paper clip to jump the only green wire in the plug to any one of the black ground pins...This should immediately kick the power supply on and "reset" it... then just remove the paper clip and plug in the cable to the mobo... everything should work great...

Great! You are a genius!

I don't have HP PC, but I had the same problems.

Every time I had to disconnect my PC from the main power supply, I had problems starting it afterwards.

Sometimes it worked after several tries and sometimes not. Didn't know what the real problem was.

Had a suspicion that it was something with the power supply, but didn't know exactly what.

This evening I installed a new expansion card and had to disconnect the PC. After that I had the described problems.

I didn't want to examine my PC this night and searched on the internet.

Found your suggestion with a hair dryer!!!!!

I thought what could worst happen? The power supply gets always warm after a certain amount of time, why don't give him a headstart!

And it worked! I thank you for this 'hot' advice and I will pass it on!

Sincerely Yours,

Hello hediezz,

I had this same problem today, after returning from a 10 day vacation, on my 9 year old HP a1120n. I tried to simply disconnect the power supply cable inside the case, reconnect inside, then plug into the wall, but as someone noted, it seems like the jolt of connecting the power supply to the motherboard with the external power connected is necessary. In other words I followed the suggested 4 steps and it worked perfectly. Green light  is solid and PC is running fine. Thanks for your post since I never would have figured this out on my own. Next time I'll try the hair dryer method, which is way less scary.
