Hi,
I have a Hp Dc5100 and I am thinking to upgrade the processor which is Intel P4 2.8Ghz 800 Mhz to Intel Pentium Dual E2180 2.0 Ghz 800 Mhz. Can you please tell me whether this upgrade will work on my computer. My motherboard is the stock (original) motherboard.

No it won't. The chipset is an Intel 915G which doesn't support dual core. I have the same pc & am trying to upgrade myself. Supposedly it'll take the P4 640(3.2GHz), 651(3.4GHz), or 661 (3.6GHz) but you need to update to the latest bios - right now I can't get ver1.10 to "stick" so it "won't support" the 651 I have.
There have been a few posts of any cpu ending in "1" (651/661)NOT working on these- even though HP and Intel say it's supported. I'll check some more.
