HP TouchSmart 610
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an HP TouchSmart 610 desktop computer running Windows 7, Version 6.1, SP 1, 64 bit OS.  I have Microsoft auto-updates turned on for all Microsoft applications.

Using McAfee Anti-Virus. It too has auto-updates and regular scanning turned on.  Also tried SmartPC Fix.

No idea what caused the problem to start with, but it is getting worse.

When using the keyboard or mouse, the cursor jumps to a different location.  (Just now, as I was typing this response, the cursor jumped to a different open window.)  Generally (but not absolutely every time), a 1” square on-screen keyboard also appears.  I move the cursor back to where it should be and  hit escape to get rid of the on-screen keyboard.  I have to do this repeatedly when typing in Microsoft or playing a game.

I have had the same problem (Touchsmart 610-1230a s/n 4CS1390DWS product number QU330AA#ABG) running the latest version of Windows 10 (1703 OS build 15063.138).  HP Support helped eliminate the problem in a chat session and remote takeover about three weeks back but it is now back with a vengeance.  I have tried all the usual remedies (new mouse, keyboard, driver updates, moving the USB dongle, disabling the touchscreen,  etc).  I'd really like to solve this one

Hi @ronoz,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with the keyboard or mouse wherein the cursor jumps to a different location.

This issue could occur if the BIOS is not updated.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link to update the BIOS: BIOS Update

Also, I suggest that you check the link: Troubleshooting Mouse Problems (Windows 7, Vista, XP)

Let me know how this works.

Thanks, Rainbow23.  The bios upgrade seems to have made a difference, but given past experience, I'd like to watch it for a few days to see if it doesn't reappear.  I'll do an update here after that time

That last post was a bit premture: after an hour or so, the problem reappeared, which is most puzzling.  What would such a problem temporarily disappear, then reappear, seemingly without any deliberate changes to the environment? It is a most frstrating situation.  Any further advice appreciated

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

This issue could occur if the touchpad drivers are not updated.

Please follow the steps provided in the link below to update the drivers from the recovery manager: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)

Thanks, Rainbow23.  In this case, I have disabled the desktop touchscreen to see if that was the cause, but that has made no difference.  But I will do the update regardless.
