Hi sandnurse,

EaseUS Todo Backup free is also very good disk imaging and cloning software.

You can avoid, in most cases, having to rebuild your PC from scratch when disaster strikes.

@Dragon-Fur  provided many baked-in Windows disaster recovery options obviating the use of third party solutions.

Your Choice!

The point is that after you have made one recovery disk in windows 8 using the HP APP.  You cannot make one that includes Windows 8.1 or any other Recovery Media after doing so once. You can only make one recovery disk period on the HP computer.   There was a Microsoft web page that was supposed to solve the problem of making an 8.1 recovery disk and I attempted to do that.  It ask for my Product key.  I entered my OEM Product Key for Windows 8 since Windows 8.1 does not have a new Product Key.  It was not recognized as a valid 8.1 Product Key.

Since the 8.1 was free, I have read that my recovery disk would only take me back to Windows 8 because that is all that is on it.  Whether Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit is an OS or an upgrade, it is not included in my Recovery Diskj, nor does 8.1 come with a Product Code to allow me to make a new Recovery Disk online that would include Windows 8.1 Pro.

Thank you.  I understand about a number of software products for back up. I have all my stuff backed up now.

Hi sandnurse,

You are absolutely right.

Microsoft will not allow the creation of a Win 8.1 install disk using a Win 8 product key.

You would have to purchase a Win 8.1 OEM or Retail install disk.

Thank you.   Since my original post, I have resolved that my OEM Product Key is the only one that I will have until Windows 9 Upgrade is available to purchase.  There was really not much reason to update/upgrade for free to 8.1. You definitely get what you pay for!

Thank you.
