Wireless Keyboard K3500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hardware:

-HP Pavilion laptop; purchased new in 2015.

-HP wireless keyboard K3500 with HP Link-5; purchased today.

-HP wireless mouse 5309urf(M); purchased 2009 (?) with wireless keyboard 5309urf(TX).

My old wireless keyboard stopped working, so I bought the new Link-5 wireless keyboard.

Mouse still connects to computer with the old receiver, but doesn't connect to computer through new Link-5 receiver.

Link-5 says that it can be used with up to five devices.

Yes, I pressed the CONNECT button on the bottom of the mouse.  Tried short press, tried longer press and tried a really long press.

All pieces are authentic HP.

Is there a software step I'm missing, or some other issue?

Is the old mouse not compatible with Link-5?

Thank you for the assistance.

Welcome to HP Support Forum. Based on the following information

         http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/us/en/pclc/articles/link-5-usb-receiver.html

1. You don't need software to connect,

2. HP Link-5 technology lets you link up to five compatible HP wireless mice or keyboards with just one USB micro receiver. The mouse is over 7 years old, well, how we can tell ! It's time to get a new mouse.

Regards.

I appreciate your response.

So, what it sounds like is that the Link-5 doesn't work on all HP wireless mice, because although my existing HP mouse - using its existing wireless receiver - still works on the newer (2 - 3 year old) HP computer, it won't work with Link-5.

So, since I wanted to buy a new wireless keyboard, I also have to buy a new mouse to replace my still-working wireless mouse.

Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.  But thanks for answering.
