Pavilion p6516f
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello,

I have upgraded to Windows 10 on this HP Pavilion p6516f, it belongs to a man I work for. He did not let me know for 2 months that it was not working properly, and now I cannot revert the process. Here is what is going wrong:

When starting the computer, the Windows logo appears, with a spinning circle. Then, it says something to the effect of: "To skip disk repair check, click any button within __ seconds". If you let it go to the repair check, it will restart the computer. Then it flashes to a few screens and gets stuck on "Choose your keyboard layout" page. All of the USB ports are non-functional at this moment and cannot go any further.

So, turn off the PC and start it again. If you click a button within the 10 second countdown it will continue to it's normal bootup and go to the home page. This proves that the USB ports are not faulty- they work to stop the timer and they also work when it is done booting up, just not when it gets to the "Choose your keyboard layout".

It is no longer within warranty so a chat with HP is not an option. I have tried to reset it back to factory settings but the restart cycle takes it right back to the "Choose your keyboard layout" screen. Also, I have looked on the forums at similar questions but I did not find an answer within any of them. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Zach

@buyingtime, welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

I understand that your desktop computer is stuck on the error "Choose your keyboard layout" after upgrading to windows 10 operating system.

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

You need to first run the hard drive test by following the steps provided below:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. In the main menu, click component test.
  5. Then click on hard drive test.
  6. Select the Quick Test to perform a quick check of the hardware.
  7. Select the Extensive Test to perform a full check of the hardware. This test might take 2 or more hours to complete.
  8. While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for the component is shown on the screen.
  9. If component passed, exit from that screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the information so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu. You may contact the phone support at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

Let me know how that works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.
