I wanted to perform a system recovery and tried using my recovery disks.  The first disk froze at 36% so I was stuck.  I ordered a new set of recovery disks from hp online and they sent me a USB flash drive.

I am following the instructions shown below but I do not have a "USB Storage device option"

Do you have any suggestions on how to get this option on my menu.

thanks

  1. Immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until a Startup or Select Boot Device Menu opens.
    1. The selections you need to make vary slightly depending on the type of menu that appears on your screen:
    2. If a "Startup Menu" opens, press F9 to open the "Boot Menu" or "Boot Device Options". Use the up or down arrow key to select the name of your USB Storage Device (the volume label of the drive). Then press Enter to continue.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...

There's no way to turn the USB Recovery Media into disks, or to modify the HP Recovery Options to accept it, when it won't.

You have to contact HP Customer Support, tell them that you have NEW Recovery Media, and that they sent you the WRONG media -- as your PC will not boot from the Recovery USB stick.  Hopefull, they will then send you the correct DISK media.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.

Good Luck

> I am following the instructions shown below but I do not have a "USB Storage device option",

Turn the computer off.

Insert the USB memory-stick into a slot.

Turn the computer on.

Enter BIOS SETUP.

Sometimes, the boot-options are divided into "groups":

* disk-drives

* optical drives

* removable drives

and the boot-order lets you specify which of the groups is the highest priority.

Move the "disk-drives" group to the highest priority.

Then, select the "disk-drives" group.

You should see an entry for your disk-drive, and an entry for your USB memory-stick.

Manipulate the group, to put the USB memory-stick at the top of the current group.

Save-and-exit from BIOS SETUP, and let it boot from the first member (the USB memory-stick) of the first group (disk-drives).

Feedback, please.
