I updated my BIOS on my TouchSmart 520-1020 to the most recent BIOS from the HP website.  While performing the update, then screen went black and went through a series of 8 beeps.   I now only get 8 beeps and no display.  I realize that the 8 beeps indicate bad video memory, but all was fine before the BIOS update.   There are jumpers on the board for ROM recovery but I have not been able to find any instruction on how to recover it.  ROM.jpg

Here are the jumpers.  Thanks for any guidance.

Hello again faststang67,

Unfortunately, I do not believe that information is available to the general public. We are at a point where I am not going to be able to provide you with the information you require. To be honest I do not believe you will find that information on the HP Forums as I would think it is classified as company confidential information and kept exclusively within HP.

I am sorry I could not give you better news. I believe you will have more success with this on the internet as I have exhausted my resources at this point. Thank you again for your posts on the HP Forums. Best of luck in your search!

Hello faststang67,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

I understand that after running a BIOS update on your HP TouchSmart 520-1020 Desktop PC it now gives 8 beeps and will not start. Unfortunately, resetting the BIOS using the jumpers will only erase settings in the BIOS not recover it. I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply. I realize that the other jumpers are for resetting the bios to factory defaults. The ones I am speaking of are specificly labeled as ROM recovery, not a reset

Hello again faststang67,

I think I understand better now what you are asking. The ROM Recovery Header allows qualified technicians to reload firmware into the SPI boot flash in case there is problem with the data.

This jumper should not be changed.

I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you again for your post on the HP Forums. Have a wonderful day!

I believe that this is what is required to bring my board back to life. I am A+ and MCSE certified and believe that I can perform this without any issue. Besides the board is not functional as it is. Are the instructions accessable? Again. Thanks for your help
