Hi there,

I'm unable to boot from my CD/DVD drive ofmy HP Pavilion 22 all-in-one Desktop.

(I've completed a search in the Forum, and unless I missed it,  did not find any reference to my particular desktop.)

I've followed HP on screen instructions to change the Bios order, yet it still refuses to boot from the cd drive.

If anyone could offer any help or advice, I'd be so grateful as I've been trying to remedy the problem this past

week without success.

I've been tearing my hair out in the process..... well, not really....I'm a baldy,  but you know what I mean.

Thank you in advance.

H.

Hello @hinginoot,

I understand that your computer will not boot off your CD ROM. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Configuring the Boot Order in the System BIOS, which I would like you to use to ensure that your CD ROM is set to boot before your hard drive. If it is and it still will not boot please ensure you try a different bootable CD.

If you need to re-post because none of the above work I would be happy to assist you further, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number I can provide you with accurate information.

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Hi again Dunidar,

I followed the instructions  from the link below (I can't get the link insertion to follow through) a number of times but I'm still unable to boot from the cd/dvd drive...........

 http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03653226

I'd like to ask you if booting from the cd/dvd drive reliant on any one particular partition?

The reason I ask is that while trying to figure out a reason for this problem, it dawned on me that I merged one partition with my C:\ drive.

I can't remember which drive letter I merged with c:\, but it's the only possible cause I can think of that I myself may have created for this particular problem.

As ever, any help you may be able to offer would be greatly received.

Best wishes for now.

Hello again @hinginoot,

To answer your question 'NO' the booting of your optical drive has nothing to do with any partition on your hard drive. Now in the BIOS were you able to see the optical drive? If you were it is most likely a software issue and I would like you to go to the HP Pavilion 23-b230ea All-in-One Desktop PC Drivers and install ALL the drivers on that page for Windows 8.1. Be sure to start with the Chipset drivers and then you can install the other drivers afterwards.

You will also see Software and I would advise you to install EVERYTHING that is there as well as some of it has to do with th running of your optical drive.

Please again re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a wonderful day!

In order to boot from a CD, I had to disable booting from UEFI device in the boot order.  Then the machine booted from the CD.

Hello

I am having the same problem with my HP PAVILION 23. I ordered the recovery disc from HP for some reason I can not boot from the CD/DVD optical drive. When I go to boot it from the cd/dvd optical drive it does nothing it does not high light or anything when I press enter. I configured the boot order it still did not respond. I disabled /enabled the legacy boot,  I disabled/enabled secure boot configuration. HP tech support tried to help no success I probably called them about twenty times. I tried everything and had no success. It seem like my computer is not reading the recovery disc, not to mention HP sent me another set and still no luck. I HP do the they make the USB recovery disc, I was told no it's only for lap tops with no optical drive which is hard to believe because if your optical drive is not reading the disc how are you suppose to reboot or do a recovery on your desk top? I been trying to reboot my computer for the last four days. If you can help me I would be so happy and greatful. By the way the computer wont start windows at all, when I try to do system recovery the screen goes blue ,which the advance menu is suppose to be there, then the computer cuts off. When you turn on the computer its says a message: Your pc needs to be repaired, The boot configuration data file is missing required information. The product #H5Q61AA#ABA, window operating system Windows 8, 64 bit. I am so frustrated please help.
