Phoenix 810-150se
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Replaced hdd under factory warranty.  Using factory restore discs, the restore seems to go fine.  After removing last cd,  system restartsa nd I receive above error.   Error message is in bright red background.

I shut system down and error message repeats itself when rebooting.   during bootup, win icon is displayed as if win  8.1 is booting ends up with with revcurring error message.

Hello,

Two possible issues could be causing the problem:

1. The motherboard must have correct product ID which corresponds to the product ID on the recovery discs. HP tech support should have correctly included the tattoo on the motherboard upon installation of the new board.

2. The CTO options for the 810-150se don't include the new graphics card (Nvidia 780 TI I)  drivers. This would also cause the Recovery discs to fail.

Either of the above items will result in a Factory Recovery error.

Win 10 provides the correct graphics driver and will activate using the OEM Win 8.1 product key in BIOS.

Here are the graphics card options for the 810-150se:

Must select one of the following options:
  • AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card (2 GB)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 graphics card (4 GB)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645 graphics card (2 GB)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 graphics card (1.5 GB)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 graphics card (2 GB)

I believe the graphics card is the culprit.

Hello,

Best choice is to contact HP for service if you are in warranty. Also run recovery with only factory supplied components such as mouse and keyboard connected to the 810-150se.

Two questions:

1. Did HP supply new drive and did you install in system? Check hardware connections in the tower and check BIOS to see if the drive is present. The new HDD may be faulty. Did you connect the new HDD to the same SATA port the old drive was connected to?

2. Are the factory recovery discs from HP or did you make them?

You could order HP recovery discs from HP here. The discs may be faulty if you created them.

You could also use this site to download Microsoft's Media creation tool and create DVD or USB Win 8.1 install media. I believe you would have to use a system having the same version of Win 8.1 you need, when creating the tool, to get your PC running again.

You would then have to install drivers and software from the first link.

There will be some issues when installing Windows clean. Some Cyberlink software may not available at your PC's Software and driver  download site per above. Condusive caching software is not available. So if you have an SSD cache drive it will not function correctly.

Thanks for reply.   Quick history: MB replaced by HP last week.  System would boot but WIN 10 could not locate desktop or loaded programs or access bios nor could I restore form thumbdrive. I suspected corrupted hdd.  I bought new HDD and win 10, did a from install with my win 10 and own hdds.   System r an fine.

HP sent me new hdd. I removed my hdds, unhooked everything but mouse, video and keyboard and started fresh install using HP 3 factory provided install discs plus utility disc.   Install went fine. Following screen directions, last disc installed, system then attempted  to complete install, screen opened with win logo as if attempting to boot and then I received error message in pop-up window with red background..

I don't have original factory video card, only have a previous nvidia card I received in prior HP desktop.  Also have Nvidia 780 TI I use and is currently in system.

The fact that system boots with my WIN 10 install makes me believe mem modules and vid card properly seated.   I just cannot figure out what error message means. Can't even find definition on Google.

HP has dispatched a repairman for Friday appt.   I just felt that was something that could be resolved by me and not require a service call even though I  have a warranty.

Oops.   Noticed your suggestion about sata cables. Honestly not sure as I normally have 2-3 hdd/ssds installed.  Did not know sata cables had to be drive specific.

Important thing is system runs fine with my win 10 install and I can live with it. I was only going to use factory 2tb hdd for docs or a backup hdd.  I am no fan of bloat ware but do find a couple of the HP utilities nivce to have running.

Just trying to determine what actual issue is.

Jay:

I tend to agree with you on video card.  Just drove me crazy not being able to find the phrase when Googling.   I sold factory card to a friend and have an old NVidia card from my 1445.   don't think I will be buying another card though.

Thanks for the feedback..

BTW, MB was matched to system. Tech had a thumbdrive just for that purpose..
