Upgrading Memory

Thanks Woodwood, I am backed up with Carbonite. So how do I get more space on this p6210y? I thought that was what I was doing. upgrading memory. I chose this computer because it was expandable. What have I expanded?

Joat,

You have successfully increased your RAM from 6GB to 8GB.

The issues you face now viz. finding extra hard disk space and redistributing your files are outside the scope of this thread.  I do not have the appropriate experience to recommend a course of action.  You have wisely backed your suff up.  Get an external HD, USB or SATA or whatever and put your less used files on that and delete them from your C drive. Icude this HD ib your carbonite back up.  That way you will create more free space on your C drive.  Maybe you should defrag your C drive after making the free space.

Hello!

I just bought 2 x 1GB sticks from Crucial and succesfully installed them...however, when I went to the bios, it said I had 2 x 1GB sticks (One a 2GB Stick and the other a crucial stick), and one 512MB stick, and that one of the memory bank slots was empty (had nothing in it), even though I have ram installed in all 4 slots. It said that In total I have 2560 MB of RAM or 2.5GB of RAM. I know i'm running this on 32-bit Windows XP, but isnt XP supposed to read at least up to 3.0GB of RAM? Or is my motherboard just limited to 2.5GB of RAM.

Hello dariusofwest, Can you advise the model number of your system. You might also consider resetting the BIOS, and see if the BIOS will recognize the memory correctly.

Hello dariusofwest, Below is some information on how to reset the BIOS for your system.

With the BIOS Setup screen open, reset the BIOS as follows:

1. Press the F5 key to reset the default BIOS settings. Use the arrow keys to select Yes or OK and press Enter .
2. Press the F10 key to save settings and exit the BIOS Setup screen. Use the arrow keys to select Yes or OK and press Enter .
3. Turn off the computer.
4. Remove the power cord.
5. With the power cord disconnected press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. This step helps ensure that the power in the system is reset.
6. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the computer.

This may resolve the issue, but you may need to disconnect the power cord, remove the side panel, and remove the CMOS battery. This is a small coin cell battery located in the lower right corner of the motherboard. Leave the battery out of the battery holder for about 10-20 seconds and then reinstall the battery.

Then reboot the system and enter the BIOS and see if the memory is being recognized correctly.

same problem with me 😞 i wont to install KINGSTON KVR1333D3N9/2G on my HP Pro 3010 Microtower PC, 

but it beeps as MIRIBILIST -s   pc.

Hello slevinglivera, It seems that HP and Compaq system are a little picky about the memory they support.

It appears the memory model number you listed is not supported by your HP Pro 3010 Microtower PC.

Here  is a link to Kingston where the certified compatible memory for your system can be found.

Kingston Memory show the model numbers that are compatible with your system as:

I reckon that older memory is generally backward compatible, by which I mean higher spec. memory will work in lower spec systems.  I beleive that such a statement does not hold for newer, faster  systems/memory (DDR2,DDR3)[readimng through some posts in this forum].
