Hi,

I have an HP a6010n, just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro. 64bit, also to 4GB of RAM, but it says I can only use 3.5GB of 4GB. I would like to run on 4GB of RAM.  Could you please help?

Thank you

Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade memory in my "m300y" windows media center 2004.  I read the "mother board specifications" but there was some confusion... In the document it states that maximum memory supported: 4 GB (4 x 512)... That just doesn't add up... Can we shed some light on this subject?

I understand that maybe in 2004 there were no such thing as a 1 GB memory stick and maybe that is where the inconsistency lies.  However, I went to the Crucial memory finder and they indicate that 1 GB/ channel will be compatalbe with my configuration.  I would prefer to hear it from an HP professional though.

Also, is there any particular memory "brand" that HP endorses?  I'm looking at PNY... they seem to have a good reputation.

Hi, i just want 2 ask something that i did not understand about this RAM Modules.

My PC is a M9441it and it needs this type of RAM...

But what about the frequency ? why it doesnt mention that...i opened the case & on the ram i was written appart other info, 666, it could be that the working frequency? cause usualy it is written on the memory...i wanted 2 buy 2 mems of 2GB @800Mhz... but i know they must be same freq in order 2 function properly... is that right?

So i really need 2 know what freq is my ram working...can u help me ?

Thx

actualy installed RAM is:

240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM

PC2-6400 MB/sec

EDIT:  PLS HELP ME ... i really need some advice...4 my RAM...

Hi,

I'm all new to the HP forum as well as to upgrading computers.

I inherited an old Compaq Presaio 6182EA. I wanted to boost it by adding some RAM thus went online to a bunch of Memory Scanners as well as bare search for compitable RAM.

Everywhere I've seen states that this model supports a maximum of 2gigs of RAM with 1gig in each slot.

From the searching and the original 256meg RAM currently installed I learned that I needed memory with these specs:

184-pin DIMM, DDR, PC2700 333 MHz (or 2100 as 2700 should cover both), CL=2,5, Unbuffered, Non-ECC, 2,5v.

Thus I selected a single 1gb RAM stick of Kingston ValueRAM with those specs (a PC2700 333MHz variant).

I just got the RAM and plugged it in where the old 256meg was and started the computer. It counted the memory all the way until 1024meg - Then it said "220 - Unsupported Memory Module..." It said that "Memory modules larger than 512mb are not supported in this computer".... But as I said every single place I've looked said otherwise. I even tried a couple of memory scanners.

Am I doing something wrong? Can anything be done? Or do I have to buy another set of RAM?

Any help is very much appreciated.

I've got an HP Pavillion s7700n running Vista, and I'd like to max it out RAM-wise.  Crucial and other sources report that I can only go up to 2 GB, and so recommend getting two of the following:

1GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module (Crucial: CT12864AA667)
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 •

However, the HP site says "You might find that your HP or Compaq computer is able to support a physical installation of 4 GB or more memory..." and the goes on to explain the limitation of 32-bit operating systems, being able to only address approximately 3.3 GB of memory.

That limitation noted and accepted (and I'll have to check, but I know I've got an Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ 2.0 GHz processor, so would expect my Vista version is 64-bit, yes?), am I ahead to get two 2GB modules as follows, for a total of 4 GB?

2GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module (Crucial: CT25664AA667)
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

Thanks!

Correction to previous post - it's a **s7700n**

I was conflicted until I read your introduction about also checking specs on the Motherboard. But please, would someone just say--yep, you did it right:

I have a Pavilion 764n and according to the HP specs page, its max is 2GB DDR.  However, the 764n comes with a MS-6577 motherboard, and its HP specs page says its max is 1GB (2 x 512).  So to do a max upgrade on my memory, I'm limited to 1 GB (2 X 512) of PC3200.  Right?

HP Spec page for 764n:

HP Spec page for the 764n motherboard:

Someone should tell all the memory stores because half had it one way and half the other

First, I found the solution that begins this thread very useful and sent Kudos.

I have much experience upgrading micro and mid-range computers, but this was the first time I've upgraded memory to a Vista platform.  I followed all the directions for specs, and my success is still partial.  Here's where it stands:

The model is Pavilion a1709n, going from the 1G as received to 4G RAM.  OS is Vista Home Premium, always current with SPs and interim updates. I'd intended to upgrade the memory when it arrived (11/2007) but never got around to it till the last Norton, Firefox, and other updates resulted in a lot of hashing.  There is probably more tune-up to follow after settling the memory issue, but, first things first. The modules are exactly as specified and have been double-checked (several times!      )

I removed the two 512M modules which were in the first two slots.  At this point, I noticed for the first time that the slots are paired in blue and black, and that both mods were in blue slots.  I have not previously seen any reference to this color difference and am wondering about the significance.  No slot numbers or letters were apparent; if they are present, where are they?

Trial and Error...

Put both 2G mods into blue slots: beep.  Removed the mod in the second slot, booted up fine and found 2G.

Added the second 2G mod in a black slot: beep.    Removed it, rebooted, no problem.  Ran a memory diagnostic test, returned no errors.

Added the pair of 512 mods to the black slots:  beep.  Removed them.  Boot went to repair menu.  Was asked if I wanted to boot from system restore, said no, let it repair for perhaps half an hour before it concluded and booted normally.

I'm wondering now which slots are 1&3, 2&4--are they arranged in a logical order, or are they paired by color?

I have not tried the second new 2G module alone to determine if it is faulty.

My goal is to use the whole 4G the specs stated can be used by this system, or perhaps to use one 2G module with the original pair of 512s, if that is a functional solution.

Can anyone shed light on the pairing and possible color coding of the memory slots?

Thanks,

JanisCJ

Hi JanusCJ...  I have recently upgraded the memory on my a1710n to 4-GBs and all is well. I believe your problem is tryng to use 2- 2GB memoiry sticks.  The mobo can only use 1-GB per slot, hence the wailing when you use more than one memory stick.  I'm pretty sure (97%) you will need to run 4- 1GB sticks as I do.  Unfortunately, these mobo's are dumbed-down, proprietary ASUS jobs which don't carry (and can't be upgraded to) the normal BIOS for the similar consumer ASUS board.  If you like the machine enough, I'd think about a new ASUS consumer mobo (AM2) that will take your existing memory, proc, and other perpherals.
