Pavillion Slimline
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

I have not been able open Google Chrome for a while and am wondering if it is because of Vista I have tried uninstalling Google Chrome i with virus protection off and reinstalling it and that does not help.

  Should I upgrade vista to something else or just buy a new computer.  It has Intel core 2 cpu E7500 @ 2.93, 2.94 and 64-bit operating system with 6.00 GB of Ram.

Thanks

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Without knowing the detailed product number of your PC, I can not check for HP drivers, but my guess would be that HP does not supply Win7 drivers for your PC.  If you want me to check, you need to follow these instructions:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001

When Win7 was new, MS offered the Anytime Upgrade, and with this, you had an "Upgrade Path" to Win7, meaning, you could do the upgrade in-place and retain your settings, personal data, and applications.

MS discontinued that years ago, and while you might be able to purchase Win7 from online sources (e.g., NewEgg), they only offer the full Win7 DVD, and that is not the same as the Anytime Upgrade option, and costs a lot more.

Presuming HP does not have Win7 drivers for your PC, if you install Win7, you will be stuck with the generic drivers that Microsoft installs, and while that MIGHT work, if any hardware doesn't work properly after that, you will then be stuck permanently, as there will be no HP drivers coming along to remedy that problem.

Sorry, but it's time to be thinking about getting a new PC, rather than upgrading your old one.

Good Luck

See: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20

This program evaluates your computer for installing Windows 7.

Most of the time, hardware capable of running Windows 7 are capable of running Windows 10.

Or, see: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

Download Windows 10, and create the "Installation Media".

Remove the disk-drive from your computer, and connect a "spare" drive.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your network.

Boot from the Installation Media, and install onto this "spare" drive.

If asked for the 25-character product-key, click "I do not have one".

Check "Device Manager" for "unknown devices".

Connect to the Internet.

Run Windows Update, to see if it will find/download/install the "missing" device-drivers.

You have a few days to "test" Windows 10, for free.

As far as I know, that "Anytime Upgrade" allowed upgrades to different editions within the same version:

* Windows 7 Home Basic -> Windows 7 Home Premium

* Windows 7 Home Premium --> Windows 7 Professional

* Windows 7 --> Windows 7 Ultimate

but the software did not have an option to "upgrade" from Windows XP nor Vista to any version of Windows 7.
