Installed a new 2 Terabit hard drive, replacing factory installed 1 Terabit drive. Using USB Recovery kit purchased from HP. After window load screen passes, a blank blue screen with a red and white life gaurd tube in the upper left hand corner. Appears to be frozen, I've left it in this state for over 8 hours. Only option is to close the window and reboot. Happens again and again.

Contact HP and request replacement of the recovery media.
Use the purchase information from the recovery media that you purchased.

Thanks for the advices. After speaking with HP it appears, the factory restore does not work with a hard drive larger than the factory installed storage compacity. Seem as if, I may have to purchase a 1 terabyte drive.

That is not correct and I am certain of it.
HP recovery media does indeed work with hard disks larger than the originally installed media in desktop and notebook PCs.
The only caveat is that there is a minimum capacity requirement when replacing the disk or upgrading to an SSD.
Windows 7 does recognize the presence of hard drives up to 2.2TB storage capacity.

That is information that some of us, as HP Experts, received from HP Employees during an impromptu discussion while eating breakfast at an HP Expert Meetup in 2015.
