Hello,
I have bought recently a Z8000 mouse as I use win8.1 on my desktop PC long time ago.
I was suprised that bluetooth dongle was not included.
Than I bought a bt4.0 compatible dongle:
CSR bluetooth 4.0 usb
When I try to connect to the PC, it recognizes the mouse, but pairing is stopped with an error message:
"Connection failed because an incorrect code was entered"
I tried to update the dongle's driver, but it is up to date.
I have discovered that this mouse does not need code for pairing.
During the pairing process I do not get any popup for enter code, just the error message at the end.
Mouse pairs with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone and works, but I bought it for my PC and not my phone...
Now I gave it up and I want to throw it into the bin. Pls help.
Thanks

Hello,
Many thanks for quick reply.
I have read all these things before as they are the basic things what needs to be checked for set up.
In a menatime I have solved the issue.
The root cause of this issue is that this new generation of BT4.0 compatible devices are using a new standard.
Most of these new BT dongles has the same chipset: Cambridge Silicon Radio
Windows 8.1 has a generic driver but it does not support HID device over BT4.0 protocol.
Only secured connection is supported where code required during the pairing process. That means none of standard pairing method would work with these generic driver in case of HID compatible device.
Briefly it is software problem. Solution was that I had to find a WIN8.1 compatible software what is able to connect this mouse as a HID device. It is BlueSoleil's driver what replaces WIN8 generic driver and now it works perfect.
Thanks & Regards

Hello @IstvanKovacs,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you are having issues getting the HP Z8000 Bluetooth Mouse top pair with our computer running Windows 8.1, even though it pairs with your phone properly. I suspect the issue resides on the computer and would be happy to assist you with getting it paired correctly. First thing I am going to do is ensure that you have the HP Support document: Bluetooth Pairing User Guide, which guides you through the pairing process. The steps for Windows 8.1 are the same steps for Windows 8 so follow the Windows 8 steps.
Be sure that when you are trying to pair the mouse with your computer that you have restarted your computer prior to the attempt and that you have also power cycled the mouse. Basically, turn it off and remove the batteries for a minute or so before putting them back in and turning it back on.
I am also providing you with some steps to try below:
***Not all the steps below will be exactly as you see it. If the steps to not match and you are unable to figure it out please when you re-post include screenshots of what you see or a good description so I can assist further. Be sure you attempt the next set of steps as well.
Step 1. At the Tiles Menu type "device manager"
Step 2. Click on "Device Manager"
Step 3. Right click on "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" that you want
Step 4. Select "Update Driver Software..."
Step 5. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Step 6. Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Step 7. Select "Ports (COM & LPT)"
Step 8. Select "Microsoft" at "Manufacturer" list
Step 8. Finally select "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link"
If you are still unable to pair with a Bluetooth device try the following:
Step 1. Search for "Change device" in the Windows 8 Start menu
Step 2. Click on where it says Change device installation settings
Step 3. Select the No, let me choose what to do option
Step 4. Check the automatically get the device app option
Step 5. Click Save changes to save the settings you just chose
As well you can try the following:
Step 1. Go to RUN (Windows Logo + R) and type “services.msc” and Enter
Step 2. Now find “Bluetooth Support Service” and double click on it
Step 3. Now click on Log On Tab and Type in "Local Service" without quotes
Step 4. Click on “This Account”
Step 5. Now remove any passwords leave the password field blank
Step 6. Underneath the upper left title should be a hyperlink "Start" Click it
Please re-post with the results of the steps above. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

Hello,
Basically it should work with BT generic driver. Now I use Windows 10 and it works perfectly.
Only thing is that you need a BT 4.0 compatible BT dongle and its driver.
Under Win 8.1 there was a BT Device handler software what had its own driver that hepled me at first.
Later I had found the generic driver and this way it should work with windows.
