Hi forum,
I've got a new Intel 750 PCIe SSD - and would like to know - what BIOS settings are needed to facilitate using it as a boot drive?
I have updated to the latest 1.58 BIOS.
In the UEFI boot menu, I am only able to see HDD1, CDROM and USB
I think the HP Zdrive G2s operate in a similar way.
thanks!

Hi,
You need to installed the Intel 750 into a PCI-E version 3 slot that is 4X or greater. Verify your installation.
Does Windows see the Intel 750 in Disk Management?
Post the product number for your Z840 so that the specifications can be reviewed.

Hey Big Dave!
HP G1X56EA#ABH -
The drives are working, formatted and have storage in W7 64bit.
I'm just under the impression I can't boot from them without setting up something special in the BIOS - as they won't appear under UEFI boot (which I think is crucial).
Do you know the correct BIOS config to allow these drives to be seen as a bootable?
many thanks

OK - I will look into software options
At the moment, in the UEFI boot options, I can only see:
HDD:SAS:1
HDD:USB:1
CDROM:SATA:1
There is nothing for PCIe SSD.
What settings do I need to change to let the BIOS see the PCIe drives?
Do I need to disable legacy boot, or is there a way to force UEFI booting?
thanks

Are you running on dual single or dual processors? On Z840s not all the PCIe slots are a supported with a single processor. Refer to : http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04400043.pdf
(page 2)
Slot 1: PCIe Gen3 x4
Slot 2: PCIe Gen3 x16
Slot 3: PCIe Gen3 x8 - Available ONLY when 2nd processor is installed
Slot 4: PCIe Gen3 x16 - Available ONLY when 2nd processor is installed
Slot 5: PCIe Gen2 x4 when 1 CPU is installed. Transforms to PCIe Gen3 x8 when 2nd CPU is installed
Slot 6: PCIe Gen3 x16
Slot 7: PCIe Gen2 x1
Cheers,
K

Hi,
BIOS 1.58 may not be good enough. I just looked today and there was a later version. Look over the notes for 1.58 and the later BIOS updates. Getting the Intel 750 installed into the correct PCI-E enable slot is critical. You will also need to download the latest NVMe driver from Intel.
