Hello. I have an HP Pavillion Slimline S5310y
I had a power surge a few weeks ago and the PSU burned up. I replaced it with ATHENA AP-MTFX-30 and it powers on fine and everything works. However, I could not connect to the internet. It connects using a basic connection but it doesn't seem to be able to connect to my FIOS internet. The ethernet cable appears fine and the light is green where it is plugged in and shows a connection on the modem. I thought maybe that the computer needed to be restored. I did a restore back to factory settings and it still does not recognize it.
I am able to open the internet explorer but I ALWAYS get an error message such as "this site could be dangerous" or something like that. I click proceed and it takes me to the page. However, I am unable to stream videos or download chrome or anything else. I get an error message saying I am not connected to the internet. It's very strange.
Does anyone have suggestions please? I'm at a loss here. Thank you for your help.

Good morning Dunidar,
I am so pleased to report that everything is working perfectly now. However, it was a bizarre tiny simple fix that did it. I went through every single step that you gave me and it didn't correct the problem. I had already done a restore to factory settings even before contacting you but I went ahead and did it again. The error message continued whenever I opened IE so I did another google search. It turns out that (for whatever reason) my clock had been reset to the year 2002 and that once it was correct should fix the problem. I was skeptical but I looked and my clock indeed said 2002. I went in and corrected the problem and put in the correct date and year. AND IT ALL WORKED PERFECTLY. I am able to get online with no problems including downloading everything that I need.
I can't thank you enough for all of your help. You went well above and beyond to help me through this. I was ready to give up and buy a new computer. Now my old computer is working as though it were new again. Thank you again!!!!

Hello. I tried resetting IE which did nothing to allow me to connect. The internet is still connected through a network connection which I don't understand. Also, I had already tried the network connectivity troublshooting and it keeps coming back that there is NO PROBLEM. My wireless works fine. Any further suggestions? Thank you again for your help.

Hello again headdoc,
Thank you for the update on the status of your issue after the steps I posted for you to follow. So we have reset your browser and gone through the general troubleshooting steps for network issues, lets try refreshing your internet connection. Step 3. Click Internet options
Step 4. Click the Connections tab

Step 7. In the Address box below the automatic configuration script check box, copy the URL and paste it somewhere so that you can get to it again later
Step 8. Delete the URL currently shown in the Address box, and replace it with a space character
Step 9. Click OK
Step 10. Click the LAN settings button again
Step 11. Now clear the Use automatic configuration script check box
Step 12. Click OK in both dialog boxes
Step 13. Save your work, close all programs you have running, and restart your PC

First let me say thank you again for all your help. Unfortunately none of that helped. I opened the LAN settings as stated in the first set of instructions but there was no address noted. I then went into the proxy server and there was NO IP address in there. I even went to properties and clicked on both IVP 4 and 6 and neither had an IP address. I thought it might be an issue with my internet and called FIOS tech support and went through everything I've done thus far. They were able to identify that my router is perfectly fine and is connecting wirelessly. They were also able to show that my desktop was connected with the ethernet cable...yet I cannot connect to FIOS.
The support person had me go to CMD prompt and I typed in ipconfig/all and it showed my IP address there. I was also able to PING yahoo through CMD prompt which he said that my internet is speaking so he is assuming it's some type of software problem. Does this help gain any further insight? Thank you so much and I am very sorry to bother you. He also mentioned that it may be possible for someone to remotely access my computer to correct the problem. I don't know if that is an option. Please advise. Thanks again and I look forward to your response.
Also when I first open IE with the connection it is on now it says
"THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS WEBSITES SECURITY CERTIFICATE"
i ALSO GET ERROR 165 WHEN TRYING TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING.

Hello again headdoc,
Thank you for the information you have provided it actually helped rule out a lot. I would like you to follow the instructions below if you could:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Click on Command Prompt
Step 3. Type "ping www.hp.com" and hit Enter
Step 4. Now I would like you to record the IP Address that is being pinged
Step 5. Type "ping <enter the ip address from Step 5) and hit Enter
Were both pings successful? If not, I would like you to flush your DNS. You can do this by following the steps I have set out below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type "ipconfig /flushdns"
Was this successful? If not, I would like you to reset the TCP/IP stack. To do this follow the next set of steps I have set out below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" and hit Enter
Step 6. Type "netsh int ip reset reset.log" and hit Enter
Step 7. Restart your computer
Next, if none of the above works I would like you to try to Install Windows updates in Windows 7. I would recommend you ensure all updates are done.
Next I would like you to try the next set of steps I have set out for you below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Windows Explorer"
Step 3. Click on Windows Explorer
Step 4. In the Address bar at the top try to stream a video or download Google Chrome
Next, if nothing has worked we are going to try using Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) to restore your computer back to a point in time before this issue arose. This will not affect any personal files you have on your computer, but it will affect any settings you have changed or applications you have installed since the time you go back to. These will have to be re-done once we are finished.
Lastly, If we still have the issue we are at the point where we need to use the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7) to back up your personal files. Once we have done this successfully I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7), which will walk you through restoring your computer back to factory.
***NOTE: This will destroy everything on your computer so make sure you have backed up everything you wish to keep.
As this will completely replace ALL your software on your computer this should resolve your issue. Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you again for posting on the HP Forums. Have a wonderful day!
