Hi @Dathsarus,
There is a newer BIOS available from hp.com/support. Here is a link to download HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B29).
The BIOS should always check the memory slots at startup.
Please keep me informed how thing go.

Hi @Dathsarus,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having some difficulty trying to upgrade the amount of RAM in your system. I am happy to assist.
Looking at the HP 110-503a Desktop PC Product Specifications, you can find the following memory upgrade information:
Also, looking at the support page for that model it does not list drivers for Windows 8.0, but there are drivers for Windows 8.1. Please verify which OS is running on your system.
If it is Windows 8.1, are all of the drivers up to date for your computer? If you are unsure you should try using the HP Support Assistant. There may also be a BIOS upgrade you can try if necessary. HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS
What was the result when you tried to install the memory? Was there an error message of any kind?
Also included for your reference, although I am sure you do not need it. HP Desktop PCs - Upgrading Memory (RAM)
Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated. .

Thank you for your reply,
i an access bios on a read only status.
pc will not boot if ram is inserted.
if bios upgrade is needed, pls indicate precisely which bios upgrade to down load, as there are several.
os = 8.1, 64bit
addition ram value, specs and manufacture are identical to installed ram chip.
ps, i do not normally play with bios (if it aint broke, don't fix it mentality, lol)

Hi @Dathsarus,
Malygris1 is not in today. I well be taking over to try to help you.
So you can get into the BIOS with no memory, Can you try just one stick of memory. If that works, remove that stick and insert the only. I'm trying to see if you have one bad memory stick.
Please get back to me.

Thank you for your suggestion, while you were typing your response i was probably flashing my bios.
The sodimm supplied to me appears to be defective and i am currently making a long trip to replace with it.
I will get back to you upon completion of this chapter of this very frustrating saga.
no disrespect to you but which brainstrust tried to camoflage a notebook board with a tower? LOL
