I don't know if you have seen my previous posts.  My monitor had the same problem and I thought I solved it by placing aluminum foil between my TV and my Monitor.  Then it was fine for awhile.  When it went bad again I noticed the fan on my Notebook getting louder just before the monitor flickered and started showing a bluish tint on the left side.  So I started to suspect a power problem due to increased power draw from the Notebook.  That's because I noticed that I had the power bricks for my Notebook and Monitor placed side-by-side.  I moved them about 3 inches apart in case the magnetic field of the Notebook power brick could be affecting the Monitor power brick.  Well, since I moved them apart the Monitor has been working fine.

Looking back to when I place the aluminum foil, before that the power bricks were right next to each other.  When testing different HDMI cables and moving the power to different outlet, etc., I moved the power bricks about one inch apart.  That worked for a week until the Notebook fan kicked up speed and apparently started the Notebook drawing more power.  After that I moved the power bricks about three inches apart.  The Monitor started working again and has been fine since then.  Now I'll wait and see how long the Monitor will keep working without the bluish tint on the left side.

I am also having the issue with the bluish/greenish tint on the left side of my screen. My father purchased the same monitor and it's newer and it also had the same problem. It's since then dissapeared but if this is a common issue, why would they continue to make this product? Is there any way to fix it? If this issue is so common, chaing cables and such isn't going to fix it, so I'm not going to waste my time and enegy with that. Not to mention I don't have any other cables to try. I also get a burned in image on that side. Has anyone been able to truly fix it. I'm using it on a desktop with windows 7 64 bit. My father uses it for two different machines. One with windows 8 and one with windows xp, but it has the same problem.

I haven't had the problem since I moved the power brick for the monitor about 3 inches away from the power brick for my Laptop.  So in my case the bluish tint was apparently caused by a voltage problem.  I'm not an expert but it seems to me that one power brick too close to another can dampen power output due to the magnetic field around it.  When the power went too low on my monitor it caused red sub-pixels to go dark on the left side of the display.  The remaining blue and green sub-pixels produced a bluish tint.

In your case, you may be able to get HP to replace your monitor.  The only catch is how long you have to spend on the phone with Tech Support going through all of the steps on their checklist to "prove" your monitor is defective.

I am having the same issue with my hp23bw monitor.  It has been just over 1 yr since I purchaced this monitor (obviously, best buy and hp new the monitor was faulty so that is why is was on sale).  It makes me truly sad that when you buy what you think is a good American product, it is not solid and you get rewarded with a faulty product.  Once again, sadly, the solution is to purchase a better product.  Note that I learned my lesson with my workstation (i purchased an ASUS), so I will have to make a better (non-hp) choice for my new monitor.

hey i have the issue where the right side of my screen is pixelated and kinda greenish. I read that you said if its under a year to contact the support desk, but where do i contact them?

I contacted support and called the 1-800 number.  I think I went through the contact us at the bottom of probably any page. Since I was out of warrenty, all they could do would be to fix it, but it would cost me like 150 or something. I choose to just buy a new monitor.

Thank you so much for this post. After reading this it dawned on me that I had moved my power strips/bricks around just before my screen starting acting up. I repositioned my power strips and it took a few hours but my screen is back to normal.

Hello,

Exact same issue with my 23bw monitor as outlined above.  Left 1/3 of the screen has developed a blue/green hue.

I use two of these monitors at my workstation, purchased at the same time (SN 3CM3100F29 and 3CM3100f2K).  I have motioned through all the iterations of monitor, cable, power supply combinations and have definitively determined that it is the monitor.

In the above posts some have suggested shielding the monitor from EMI with aluminum foil has resolved their issues.   I will comment and say that this is NOT the root cause of the failure and only by circumstance resolved the problem.  I have no doubt the green hue returned.   This phenomenon was common with CRT screens when magnets were located in close proximity (speakers).  LED, LCD screens are not susceptible to this form of interference.

In other instances, the hue returns intermittently.  This indicates, and is an all too common occurrence, that poor soldering has occurred between the integrated circuits and the PCB and or that the PCB has not been adequately washed and de-fluxed.

In other words, this is 100% a manufacturing defect.  Perhaps isolated to only one small batch of monitors, or the entire line.

The number to contact HP is 1-800-474-6836.

My experience followed most, having been transferred to 6 different individuals.  I won’t bore you with the details short of saying the hour spent on the phone was fruitless.

To summarize:

-        23bw suffers a manufacturing defect

-        This consumer products has a 1 year warranty

-        If you are 1 day outside of the warranty HP suggest having the monitored repaired.  The diagnostic fee is $300 (The monitor is worth $200 new)

-        You, like me, have very little to no recourse.  This monitor will go to the landfill along with countless HP products.

-        Remeber when your old TV or CRT lasted 22 years.  This monitor cost near the same as my first CRT and lasted 1 year.  What happened, when did it become acceptable to sell landfill?

-        HP has fooled me once, but will not again.

I have the same problem, again.  I sent the first one I bought back in oct 2013, received a new one back, and it went kaput today, after showing some signs of weakness for a few weeks now.

So this is twice I've had to send this model back, and they're just sending me another replacement, hopefully that will last this time, or until the remainder of my warranty runs out.

I am not pleased.  😞

In one of my previous posts I described how I solved this problem by moving apart the power bricks for the monitor and laptop.  If you have a situation where  your monitor power brick is placed close to another one, then it could be the cause of your problem as it was in my case.
