The link works for me, but probably because it was my auction.

Anyway, yes it's a Pegatron m2n78-la violet6 motherboard. Like this one:

thanks!  unfortunately this board is dd3 and a AMD3.  Mine is ddr2 and AMD+2 so i would have to replace all RAM etc.  My board is going to be hard to find i'm afraid.

Ok so my p6210f with the m2n78-la is just dead.. HP wont give any deal and wants $350 for a new board. So we are going to go with this motherboard >     http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5235299&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBAS...

Im curious if i am going to have to buy a new copy of windows? Or will i be able to activate using the product key on the side of this hp box?

Thanks again for any help 🙂

pchelperdude, I just bought one yesterday.  When I install it I am going to report back how my experience went.  I made the leap not even knowing if I will need to buy another version of windows or if it will recognize my current OS.  The one thing I love about this MB is the fact that it will let you access documents, email, internet etc without loading windows.  Wish me luck!

Sweet! let me know how it goes. Also are you using the hp case? If so you will want to look at this link for the front panel connections. >  http://www.scribd.com/doc/45660126/M2N78-LA-ASUS-Pegatron-Manual-Rev-3  (however as i try to post this link that site is down for maintenance) Hp uses a weird front panel connector. I am just going to remove the 2 sets of led indicator wires and leave the power and ground wire as is and then plug it in to the mobo in the strange way it will take to sit correctly. (Actually will be hanging off on one side of the m4a785-m front panel pinouts) or you could buy an adapter and arrange all the wires to there correct positions. But yes definitely let me know how it works out!  What hp model are you working on?

The difference between the pocket drive and personal storage media drive is bascially the physical size of the unit. As it implies, the pocket drive is smaller and could fit into your pocket. The personal storage media drive is larger, basically the size of a hard drive. Both are hard drives, both used for storage, both are removable from the computer (unlike an internal hard drive).

Hello All, If you change the HP motherboard to a different motherboard, you will be required to purchase another operating system.

The HP motherboard has what HP refers to as a Tatoo of the BIOS on the motherboard. When the HP motherboard is changed to another brand or model, and you try to use the Product Key on the computer COA, the Product Key will not be accepted nor will you be able to activate it.

Since most HP systems have a proprietary motherboard, meaning the mounting holes on the case and motherboard are not standard, many retail motherboards will just not drop in and mount in a normal way. You may need to modify the case to get a non HP motherboard installed.

Just some thoughts.

ugh...HP sells you a bad motherboard, then they try and charge you $400 to fix it with the same bad motherboard, then if you want to fix it with a good motherboard it wont fit in your case, and you have to repurchase windows.

I will NEVER buy an HP again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope it will take the windows key... ive seen it happen before... and luckily i have an extra case so hopefully i will get lucky and not have to spend more money on this pc.

pchelper dude,  I have finished installing the MB into my HP p6130y case and it fit perfectly. Only took a few hours.  (my 1st time replacing a MB).  I did have to take out the old I/0 plate and push in the new one.  Everything went fine until i got to the power/led/HD light connections, my new M4A785-M MB has a 20-8 pin connection but my old MB just used a 9 pin connection that looks like this>>> (::::.).   (Not the same as the diagram you posted) I am not exactly sure how to make this connection yet. Anybody have an idea how to do this?

ok so u need to look at the 9pin connector and the diagram above (picture how it would sit on the old mb) then you know which wires are the power etc etc.. there are prolly 6 wires connected to the 9 pin connector.. 2 are power, 2 are power led, and 2 are hdd led..  make sense?
