had to restore computer back to original factory settings using hp recovery program.   i backed up my files on 3 dvds and all backed up properly.   i have computer reset to original factory settings now and have loaded the three dvds and they left a shortcut on my desktop.   not sure what to do next as i was hoping there would be an automated way to restore all my files in the appropriate places.

The backup in Recovery is quite limited and really intended for emergency- in case of a Recovery needed without a prior proper backup of files. It actually is a hit and miss solution with restoring even to a folder, have seen many fail with it. Unfortunately it only puts them in a folder and you must move them to proper location such as photos to My Pictures folder, files to My Documents folder, etc.
