You probably would be perfectly fine with the stock P/S and that card but adding a quad core processor adds 30 watts to the equasion.
I would use the thermaltake power supply calculator to get a ballpark idea of whether or not the 240 W P/S in your PC can accomodate both a quad core processor and the graphics card.

Why not tone down your processor upgrade to the E8600?
It will be cheaper than the Q9550, and uses 30W less power and is still a lot better processor than the standard E6550.

That way you get more processing speed, a 2 MB larger cache, and you can keep the stock cooling solution and power supply.

im sticking with the plan to get th 9550, so far i have found a psu and the cpu. what would you say would be the max dimensions i have to work with for putting in a cooling system, since i want to retain the ability to put the cover back on.
(measurements in millimeters would help, but are not neccesary)

speaking of specs... do any of the spec sheets for the dc7800 specify the dimensions of the fansink (heatsink with fan directly attached) that is used?
managed to get some measurements but am not sure if 100% correct (depending on what i do close may not be good enough, and i dont want to order something that turns out to be 1mm to big (ive had it happen. there is nothing that causes more frustration than a part being 1mm too big and nothing you can do about it without effort that aint worth it)
the measurements i got are: 58.51mm x 94.09mm x 75 mm (lenght x width x height) with length of course being from towards the front of the machine to the back

The only parts document that I know of is this one, and there are no specs.
