My hp personal computer shut down and has a small box prompting "This computer is configured to require a password in order to start up.  Please enter Startuppassword below."  I tried my password and it doesn't work.  There is no option to recover or create a new password.  I'm stuck.  Anybody?

Hello @Jane641

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

This is related to a BIOS and start up password which you or someone else configured. This is usually not your Windows account login password. In order to remove this password (if forgotten or not known) you will need to open the PC's box.

There are jumpers on the system board (motherboard) that are designed to remove BIOS and power on passwords. Search for the specifications documentation on your PC. Find the document online outlining the system or motherboard to locate CMOS and or password jumpers.

If you provide me with your full computer model and the product number (PN) I might be able to help you locate the specific documentation for your specific model. Here is how > http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108

Hope this helps.
