For the new softwAre to install correctly, you will have to go to Control Panel and uninstall the old one then restart your computer and install the new one.

Nope, this doesn't solve the problem.

When I bought my laptop (HP Pavilion g4 series), it has one version of HP Support Assistance program and it used to work like a charm. All of a sudden this stopped working. While it could connect to HP Servers, next 4 stepts of checking and downloading updates used to fail. I checked the HP site and found out a newer version of Support Assistance is available, I promptly installed this new version (after uninstalling the old version).

But this new version comes back with the error message 'HPSF.exe has stopped working.....' click OK to restart and RESTART comes back to the same error message.

This just doesn't work.

What do I do? I don't have my old version (which used to work for a year) but not any more and the new version doesn't work at all.

I would uninstall the one on your computer and restart the system. It could be you have a link that is no good for the new software. I went to the reply for this problem that had the most "Kudos" and installed this one.

I too have this problem.  On a post I cant find again I saw three steps to solve it.  I uninstalled HP Support Assistant.  I rebooted the computer.  I reinstalled .NET 3.5. I downloaded and installed HP Software Framework from a link in that post. Then I downloaded and re installed the latest version of the program from a link provided in that post.

The problem is unchanged. Any other suggestions?

My computer is HP Pavillion MS225 running Windows 8 Pro 64bit.

I tried this.  I went to Control Panel, uninstalled it and then hit the provided link.  I downloaded HP Support but it told me that it was only for a computer that currently had it installed on it.

Try this link. It worked for me. If this doesn't work I have no idea.

Thank you - it took one try from another expert and that did not work. Today I tried yours and I think the matter is resolved. The key is the uninstall and the restart, which the other expert did not suggest. Thanks again 🙂
