trying to create bootable HP diagnostic disk

downloaded sp56288.exe file from HP website

this is listed as a bootable diagnostics file

instructions state that the file is an ISO image file and should be

burned directly to disk

However the file is an EXE file...not certain how to deal with this

please help

This is a self-extracting archive file, so you simply double-click on it to run it.

thanks for reply...however when I double click

the file tries to install on my present computer

which is a laptop...my intent is create an ISO to burn

to disk for another computer (HP Desk Top)...where is the

ISO file extracted to?

I presume that you have downloaded from:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56288.exe

The file's characteristics are:   04/11/2014 12:00AM    594,256,576 sp56288.exe

That's the date that the file was stored onto that FTP-server.

That's quite a large download!  Just for "fun", I ran a virus-scan:

    Virus-scan completed on 36324 items.

The virus-scanner "dug" deep into the embedded ISO file, to find all those files.

Then, I ran that '.exe' file.

When it completed, I opened Windows "File Explorer", and navigated to the  C:\swsetup\ISOs  folder.

There are two files in that directory:

     16/02/2012  08:09 AM       614,004,736 Vision Diagnostics.ISO
     22/02/2012  05:09 PM                      264 Vision Diagnostics.INI

The file-dates are different -- they are the dates that each file was created.

The contents of the latter file are:

CDPart#=651727-L27
LangCode=XX
OSCode=OSXX

So, it seems to be exactly what it is alleged to be.

Click with the 2nd (usually the "right", unless you have a left-handed) mouse-button on that '.iso' file, and choose "Burn Disc Image", to write the ISO file to a blank CD-recordable disk.

Keep in mind that the computer that I am

executing the extraction on is not the intended target.

Will this cause problems for the computer that is still functional?

I currently do not have an ISO folder under the swsetup folder?

I am trying to use a win7 HP laptop to extract and burn the disk to

use on an win7 HP desk top that will not boot.

No problem.

No.  Running that '.exe' file only creates the   C:\swsetup\ISOs\   folder, and its contents.

You dropped one 's' --- spelling counts.  🙂

After running the program, open the Windows "File Explorer", and type  C:\swsetup\ISOs\ 

into the "address-bar", and press ENTER, to see:

You're on the correct path.   That "Disc Image File" is what you want to "burn" to a blank CD-recordable disk.
