I just obtained the HP 2311x monitor and everything was running smoothly until I tried to set up my xbox through the hdmi port. When the hdmi was plugged in, it reads "check video cable" this must mean the monitor recognizes a connection but is unable to carry it out. Once I was able to display an image for many hours as I played. When I turned it back off the issue remained. Another issue with this is when HDMI is selected I can only access the menu to change to VGA for my laptop until after it sleeps and fast enough before it recognizes the HDMI.

Hi,

Review this HP 2311x HDMi problem thread.

Contact HP Support and see what the issues are with the HP 2311x and HDMI.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

Support does not have an idea. Is there anyway I can get it replaced by HP even though I did not buy it from them?

Hi,

There normally is a 21 day return policy.  Check with the seller.

I think your cable may just be non-HDCP compliant?

Same issue.  Monitor works with DVI or VGA connector., but gets Check Video Cable" when using HDMI cable.  Using a MSI Radion R5450 with c urrent Catalyst software installed.  The Catalyst application will detect the display and list it as a 2311. It uses the icon for a flat pannel (vs the CRT when detected as a VGA card.  Running on Windows 7.  The display firmware is 2.04 G.

BTW HP - when I attempt to use the online Chat or E-mail support, you are unable to verify the display's serial number, so I'm unable to access warranty support.

Figured out the warrenty part - HP uses a different part # from the display's name. p/n is XP598AA.  I suggest you  open a case.

I have this monitor.  Doesn't work with 6' HDMI cables. Haven't tried other lengths.  Using a Radeon 5450 based card.  Connect my main monitor to the DVI connector and the 2311 to the HDMI connector. The card's software can see the 2311X (shows up in the list of panels it sees), but the 2311 reports "Check Video Cable".  In this state, none of the display's buttons work... until the monitor sleeps.  You can then get the display to wake up by touching the Source Control button (has + above it). This shows the monitor has selected VGA input (no cable there!). If you are quick you can press the source button and select the HDMI interface, but this doesn't fix anything.

I opened a case via the chat - you need to supply the monitor's serial number and model XP598AA.  Walked the tech through:

1. connected Desktop PC to HDMI input of my TV - works.

2. Moved cable from TV to monitor - doesn't work.

3. Use roommates laptop - connect to PC - works.

4. laptop connected to TV - doesn't work.

They are shipping me a replacement monitor (7 days ground).  We will see if that helps. I doubt it.

Since the video card can identify the monitor via HDMI, there is a connection, but something else is wrong.  I noted that the firmware is v2.04G.  In another thread, someone commented that they had three of this monitors and only one was failing on HDMI i/f.  Could this be a firmware issue in the HDMI handshake?    `

I am also currently experiencing the same problem.  i.e. My HDMI port is neither working with my Laptop nor with my PS3/DVD Player etc..   I have checked Cables with complementary test with TV and DVD/Laptop to make sure if there is any problem with cable or laptop HDMI port.

Thanks,

H

Hi,

I have asked HP to look into the HDMI problem with the HP 2x11x monitors.

Thanks.  That might explain why my replacement monitor, due today 2011-12-05 is now delayed util 2011-12-19.
