Omen Accelerator & 2080 Ti

Any chance they'll update the eGPU firmware to support the 2080 Ti?

The issue with the 2080 is a power issue not necessarily a firmware issue.  I was investigating this same issue and the housing may not have sufficient power to run many of the 2080s which require 2 8 pin adapter.  I currently have a 1070 using the 6 + 2 adapter and it runs great.  You should be able to run the 2070s without issue from a power perspecitve since (the ones I have been considering) only require a single 8 pin adapter.  In this case you would simply use the 6+2 from the Accelerator housing.

I still have not gotten around to testing a 2070.  I have concerns it will not work.  Which I will address shortly in another post.

Hello, yesterday I successfully got the RTX 2070 founder's edition to work on my Omen Accelerator.

1. Used 6 + 2 power adapter, worked without an issue.
2. I performed ALL updates on the accelerator support page + the new nVidia drivers
3. It runs great although it is a little hot.
4. Size of the RTX 2070 (228mm x 112mm) is perfect for the Accelerator limit (330mm x 140mm)

The founders edition 2080 (266 mm x 115.7mm) will fit but I still think you might run into power issues since it requires 2 8 pin adapaters.

The reference 2080 Ti GPU uses 17.3 watts idle, 21.3 watts on a bluray (movie), 278.8 watts in gaming, and peaks at 359.7 watts.

Constrastingly, the 1080 Ti GPU uses 13.2 watts idle, 15.1 watts blu-ray (movie), 245.3 watts gaming, and 294.8 watts peak usage.

That's a delta of 60 watts.... The power supply in the eGPU provides 500 watts, and is replacable with short-length power supply. ** Not officially supported. **

Also, regarding your airflow problem, alot of users mention its a better idea to switch the flow of air on the front fan for better cooling. I personally am a bigger fan of Varder EKWB fans. They're reasonably quiet, and have significant static pressure. 🙂
