OMEN by HP Photon Wireless Mouse
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I am having an issue with my OMEN by HP Photon Wireless Mouse (Product 6CL96AA). The mouse's left click button is making a loud, squeaky noise during occasional button presses. This is not the normal click sound, and something may be wrong for it to start making squeaking/rubbing sounds

Back in May 2023, I submitted a warranty dispute, received the confirmation email that my one-year warranty was validated, but the product support page still shows my warranty as expired? How can I receive support or repair on my faulty mouse?

Thanks

Hi @Tony3264,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A loud, squeaky noise coming from a mouse button, like the left-click button on your OMEN by HP Photon Wireless Mouse, can be annoying and might indicate a mechanical issue. Here are some steps you can take to address this problem.

  • Check for Dust and Debris: Sometimes, dust or debris can get lodged underneath the mouse button, causing a squeaky noise. Turn off the mouse and gently tap it or blow compressed air around the button to remove any particles that might be causing the issue.
  • Clean the Button: You can try cleaning the button itself by gently wiping it with a microfiber cloth or a cotton swab dampened with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure the mouse is turned off when doing this.
  • Lubricate the Button: If the squeaking noise persists, you can use a very small amount of lubricant specifically designed for electronics (e.g., contact cleaner or electronic lubricant) on the button's pivot points. Be extremely cautious with this step, as too much lubricant can cause other issues. Apply a tiny amount and make sure it dries before using the mouse.
  • Check for Loose Screws: Some mice have screws holding the buttons in place. If any of these screws have become loose, it can cause squeaking. If you're comfortable with it, carefully open the mouse and check for loose screws, tightening them as needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
