Interesting that you, like me, were just outside the warranty (a month in my case), but you got a replacement, whereas I only got the opportunity for a replacement/repair for an additional £375.
It seems that much depends on whom you get to speak to in the support team, which is a strange lack of consistency for a global blue-chip tech company.
I got a satisfactory outcome via the CA process, but I was working through a re-seller rather via HP itself.
Ultimately I liked the Reverb, which, when it worked, was an excellent mid-range HMD, but I have now bought a Pico 4, as I will not take a £600 risk with another Reverb, especially as HP appears to be exiting the consumer VR market.

I agree about the variety of responses we have all got to what amounts to exactly the same issue.
I'm very glad to hear you reached a satisfactory outcome via your retailer. I was going to go down down thew section 75 credit act route to try and claim something back when HP finally responded.
The Pico4 was on my shortlist ... I hope you are happy with it. I sense an exciting time in VR over the next few years, just slow progress as they aren't exactly mass market appeal. Maybe Apple and Meta will pull something out of the hat and make them more appealing to the masses, thus making VR cheaper in general for us all.
