If you can put one of those soft cool gel compresses on top of the headset when it acts up and see if it stops. You have to wait a few minutes to let it cool down but it stops it for me. Not very practical but at least you know it is the heat.

Well, mine got fixed. I've sent it back to the retailer and I think they sent it to HP.
At least some part of the hardware was replaced. Back ok now. Took some weeks to get it back.

Which pm are you referring to?

Anyway, sned your G2 to your reseller or HP to get it fixed. It's a common problem and they can help you

I have the same problem, but it is the left lense first and after this both lenses fail. The plug on the hmd side feels really hot. I can exclude the cable as the source of this problem, since i had a brand new unopenend original cable here. I used the new cable, but after 10 minutes the same effect took place. When i turn off everything for a while, i can use it at first, but after a while, the same issue occurs.

I think it's some kind of overheating problem in the headset.

By now HP should know what's wrong 'cause of all the reported cases. I think they know perfectly well.
Send it back to HP or your reseller. HP will get it fixed within warranty

Yes very likely an overheating problem and HP were great replacing my G2.  

Still gets hot top left but no repeat of the lens problem so far.

Not too happy about the limited warranty on the replacement given the original failed in less than a year.

Works well with MSFS and the SCS truck sims.

I had same problem, contact HP, they swapped cable first but problem continued so then swapped headset and all fine since

exactly the same problem, 11 month headset. I am sure it's the headset overheating, as the cable connector is very hot - once I cool it in my hand and reconnect, i have about few minutes till it happens again. thanks HP. this will turn into lawsuit of I won't get a refund
