Wanted to come back and say that I was finally able to get this working now! I did have to use the USB-C to USB-A adapter as both my USB-C ports were non-functional for the HMD. After that I was all good to go. Also managed to get ReVive to work for my old Oculus games too, so I was just having victory after victory tonight.

Strange, I tried all my 3.0 ports with thr adapter and my USB C port on my mobo to no avail. I wonder if Windows pushed a WMR patch? Still, glad yours is working, im yet to get mine working but will keep pushing onwards.

I've also had this problem on my Asus Tuf x570. I was getting error 7-14 on all my back panel usb ports. It worked on a front panel usb port, but only at 60hz and without audio. I just installed a pci-e usb 3.0 card and using that it now powers up and detects the headset properly. However, further into the setup I got an error 13-14, unable to initialize at 90hz. A reddit post I found suggests it could be a hololens driver issue, caused by the most recent update to the driver.
It works in 60hz mode, including audio.

Which somewhat tells me that Asus may have screwed up on the physical design and the USB 3 ports aren't pulling spec on power, and the Reverb G2 requires every bit of spec. That may not be fixable with a software patch.
The USB 3 C port on my 2080 Ti is working perfectly, other than the issue of having to unplug and re-plug to get the headset to fully wake up (sound comes one when firing up WMR but no video). Once I finally luck into a 3080, though, I'll have to do the same thing and get a SATA powered USB 3 PCIe card.

Got it to work, but still a mess. With the added pcie usb 3.1 card (powered from psu) I still had problems. I eventually somehow got it to work while plugging the usb type-c (using type-a adapter) to the front panel usb ports. I guess this may be because this has a different sata cable ran to it other than what is on the motherboard. I still can't get steamVR to detect my headset.
