OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-160se CTO

Adding second SSD instructions: remove the screw on the motherboard insert the SSD push down on the SSD reinsert the screw to secure the SSD to the motherboard. All well and good but the screw looks more like a chrome post that turns but does not unscrew OMEN 45L. Do not know how to remove the chrome post

Greetings @Whatever64

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Sounds like the chrome post you are referring to is an M.2 MB standoff used to secure and level the M.2 drive.

You need a screw to secure the M.2 drive to the MB standoff. Or check the standoff installed in the MB for a screw.

Thanks Bill_To for your response appreciate it.

There is no problem in inserting the SSD at a 30-degree angle fits fine. Problem is the post, I can't seem to remove it I tried a Phillips head, but it keeps turning and turning and not going anywhere the post is actually cylindrical and not even a hexagon. I am going to try again with a smaller Phillips if I can find one it's even hard to tell if it has that type of head if it does its tiny and sunken, if not I don't know what to do but give up.  Will return the SSD.  HP should have put a Phillips head screw in to make it easy But Noooo . Have to make it difficult and impossible to work on to just do a simple thing.

Greetings @Whatever64

My pleasure.

I have never seen the type of M.2 standoff you seem to have, in your HP MB, installed in other MBs.

it sounds like the standoff is stripped.

Hey thanks for the help.

I think I finally figured out how this guy works. The HP motherboard will only accept a specific M.2 SSD one that has a thermal pad heat sink only, and HP did not provide a P 1 Phipps head screw like they should have.  So, I will deal with it

Thanks again
