I have an OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-wf0007TX (81L08PA) running Windows 11 24H2, and I’m experiencing a critical issue with the display.

Recently, I opened the OMEN Gaming Hub and enabled the Graphics Switcher, changing the setting from Hybrid to Discrete mode. After applying the change, the system prompted for a reboot. After rebooting, the internal laptop screen went completely black, and I could no longer access BIOS or see any boot logos on the laptop display.

I connected an external monitor via HDMI, and it works — I can access Windows only on the external display. However, even inside Windows, the Intel Graphics driver shows an exclamation mark in Device Manager, and I cannot install the proper driver. When I uninstall and try to reinstall, Windows automatically reinstalls a faulty version before I can manually install the correct one.

Additionally:
• BIOS does not appear on either screen when the laptop starts
• Trying to reset the Graphics Switcher setting in OMEN Hub does not help

This issue started after enabling the Graphics Switcher feature in OMEN Hub and has made the laptop display unusable.

Please advise how I can reset the graphics mode back to Hybrid or force the laptop to re-enable the internal display. Any BIOS-level or low-level firmware method to restore the internal screen would be extremely helpful.

Hi @amir185,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Connect an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
  • This can help you see whether the discrete graphics card is functioning properly and if it's just an issue with the internal display.

Revert Graphics Settings:

  • Use the external monitor to access the OMEN Gaming Hub.
  • Revert the graphics settings back to Hybrid mode if possible.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices and remove the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and turn on the laptop to see if the screen resumes normal functionality.

Update BIOS and Graphics Drivers:

  • Access the laptop using the external monitor and update the BIOS.
  • Also, update the graphics drivers for both integrated and discrete GPUs.
  • You can find the latest updates on the HP support website.

Soft Reset of BIOS to Default Settings:

  • During boot, press F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Reset the BIOS to default settings.
  • Save the changes and reboot to see if the internal display gets restored.

Check for Loose Connection:

  • If possible, check the internal display cable connections to ensure they are securely attached.

I hope this helps.

I’ve checked the OMEN Gaming Hub settings, and it’s already set to Hybrid mode (both Intel and NVIDIA GPUs active). I even switched it to Discrete and it back to Hybrid, automatically but this didn’t resolve the issue.
• I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers: I uninstalled both Intel UHD Graphics and NVIDIA RTX 4060 drivers via Device Manager and reinstalled the latest versions from the HP website and Intel/NVIDIA websites. The Code 43 error persists.
2. Used DDU for a clean install: I used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove both graphics drivers and reinstalled them, but the issue remains.
3. Hard reset: I performed a hard reset by disconnecting all external devices, removing the power adapter, and holding the power button for 15 seconds. After reconnecting and powering on, the internal display still doesn’t work.
4. Checked BIOS settings: I tried to access the BIOS by pressing F10 during boot to reset it to default settings or change the graphics mode, but I can’t see the BIOS interface on the external monitor (via HDMI). It seems the BIOS output is only on the internal display, which isn’t working.

Hi @amir185,

Thank you for the response.

Since the internal display is not showing anything, not even BIOS, and Code 43 persists even after a DDU wipe and reinstall, it’s likely a firmware-level graphics routing issue caused by the change in GPU mode in OMEN Hub. Here's a more advanced plan to recover your laptop screen and fix the GPU detection:

Force Reset BIOS via Blind Keystrokes (BIOS Recovery Key Combo)

Even though the internal screen is black, we can try a blind BIOS reset, which might force the GPU mux switch to reset:

Shut down your laptop completely.

Hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds while still holding Windows + B.

Release all keys.

Wait up to 60 seconds. You may hear beeps or the cooling fan spin up. This is the BIOS recovery process.

If successful, the laptop will reboot, test if the internal display lights up.

This is a low-level firmware trick HP laptops use to reset BIOS graphics settings when the screen fails to show anything.

Reflash BIOS using Crisis Recovery USB (if blind method fails)

If the above doesn't help, try reflashing the BIOS using a USB recovery drive:

On another computer, go to HP’s official support page and download the latest BIOS for OMEN 16-wf0007TX.

Use the BIOS Update Utility to create a USB recovery drive.

Insert this USB into your affected laptop.

Then repeat the Windows + B + Power method with the USB plugged in.

If successful, the system will boot from the USB and reflash the BIOS, potentially restoring display output routing.

Force Reinstall Intel Graphics via Safe Mode

Because Code 43 often indicates a hardware detection or driver conflict, here's a targeted fix:

Boot into Safe Mode:

Hold Shift and click Restart from the external monitor.

Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.

Press 4 for Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode:

Open Device Manager > Display Adapters.

Right-click on Intel UHD Graphics → Uninstall Device.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and delete any igdlh64.inf_amd64 folders if available.

Reboot.

Download and install the latest Intel UHD Graphics Driver for your CPU (likely 13th Gen) directly from Intel’s website.

Restart and check if Intel GPU activates correctly. If it does, the internal display may return automatically.

I hope this helps.
