I got this idiotic idea to upgrade my RAM.....Currently I have 8gb ,,,I just purchased one single Samsung 16gb 288-pin DDR4...Same specs but different brand.....I do love my pc and I am extremely careful when it comes to opening the case of my desktop pc....Keep in mind I am just an armature (or even lower) when it comes to Computers ....Can my PC function properly with 24gb (Samsung 16gb+8gb HP)?

Hi:

 

HP doesn't manufacture any hardware components.

 

The memory module in your PC is made by some other company.

 

It may even be from Samsung for that matter.

 

There is an interesting conflict regarding what the HP specs indicate the maximum memory is.

Under the memory upgrade info, the specs state you can install 32 GB of memory, but it indicates the maximum size memory chip you can install is 8 GB.

 

When I went to school, 8 + 8 was 16, not 32, so what part of the spec is wrong?

 

I checked the crucial website and they also state the max you can install in your PC is 32 GB, but they do have the correct capacity...16 GB per stick.

In summary, you should be fine.

 

However, I suggest in the future that you upgrade the other 8 GB chip to a 16 GB one, because the memory will run more efficiently in the dual data rate (DDR) mode which you cannot achieve with mismatched capacity memory.

 

With an 8 GB chip and a 16 GB chip, the memory will run in the lower performing single data rate (SDR).
