If you mean: can I install a non-HP gaming motherboard in my HP Omen 40L case, the answer is: yes, but with significant limitations and modifications. The HP OMEN 40L case is designed around HP’s proprietary motherboard layout, so replacing it with a standard non-HP gaming motherboard isn’t a straightforward swap. Here’s what you should consider:
Key Challenges & Workarounds:
Motherboard Standoffs & Form Factor:
- The HP OMEN 40L uses a custom motherboard design that doesn’t follow standard ATX mounting points exactly.
- Some standoffs may not align with a standard ATX motherboard, requiring new holes to be drilled or adapter mounts.
Front Panel Connectors:
- HP uses proprietary front panel connectors for the power button, LED controls, and USB ports.
- A non-HP motherboard may not have compatible headers, requiring an adapter or rewiring.
Power Supply (PSU):
- If using the stock HP PSU, check if it has standard 24-pin and 8-pin power connectors. Some HP power supplies use proprietary pinouts, requiring an adapter or a PSU replacement.
Cooling & RGB Integration:
- The HP OMEN 40L’s RGB lighting and fan controls are integrated with HP’s motherboard and software.
- A non-HP motherboard won’t control these directly, so users may need third-party software, BIOS adjustments, or an external RGB controller.
BIOS & Fan Control:
- HP’s motherboards have proprietary BIOS settings for cooling profiles.
- A different motherboard will require configuring new fan control settings in BIOS or using a separate fan controller.
Bottom Line:
While it’s possible to install a non-HP gaming motherboard, it’s not plug-and-play. If you are comfortable with custom wiring, modifying the case, and potentially replacing other components (PSU, cooling, RGB controller), you can make it work. Otherwise, you might be better off using a standard aftermarket case for a smoother upgrade.

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Your PC is already powered by a 24-pin ATX power supply -albeit HP-branded no doubt.
Meaning, you can install any industry standard ATX power supply, as long as you check its dimensions (LxWxH) -which are also pretty standard, to make sure it will fit in your case.
