I have a HP OMEN 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15 (less than two years old). In the past 3 months I have found that pressing the power button does not turn the PC on straight away.

The PC does not power on when the power button is pressed.

I must press the power button once, wait about a minute, then press it again for the PC to start.

This happens consistently. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Hi @Szeki,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue you are experiencing with your HP OMEN 25L Gaming Desktop, where the PC requires pressing the power button twice to start, alongside a delay, could be attributed to several factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to help diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the power cable is properly connected and that the power outlet is functional.
  • Try connecting the PC to a different power outlet.

Examine Connections:

  • Inspect all connections internally if you are comfortable opening the case, ensuring that RAM, GPU, and other components are firmly seated.
  • Investigate the power button connection to the motherboard inside your computer case.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there is an updated BIOS version for your model. Sometimes, BIOS updates can resolve hardware communication issues. You can find available updates on the HP Support website for your specific PC model.

Power Supply Unit (PSU) Issues:

  • Analyze whether the existing PSU is functional. There could be an issue with the PSU failing to deliver power consistently on the initial attempt. If possible, test with another compatible PSU.

Hardware Diagnosis:

  • Utilize HP’s built-in diagnostics tools, like the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, to check for any hardware malfunctions. This can sometimes identify issues that contribute to booting problems.

Software and Settings:

  • Verify that the system settings in BIOS or any preboot environment are set correctly and are not delaying the boot sequence.
  • Make sure no applications are set to delay the start-up excessively.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

The BIOS is the latest. Cables and internals are seated correctly. I haven't tried another socket yet but i don't think that will make any difference.

it still does it every day. I the press power switch and nothing happen. I wait 30 seconds or so and then press the power switch again and it turns on as normal. It's been happening for about 6 months and didn't happen before then.

I suspect it's either a failing power supply or something to do with ErP in BIOS. However, the ErP setting in the BIOS for this desktop PC isn't accessible as it's locked down.

Regards, etc.

Hi @Szeki,

Thank you for your response.

It might be a switch or cable loose issue.
