None of the USB ports on my MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk worked, so as a last resort I plugged it into  a USB hub I had around, and in one of the 4 ports it worked. It did not work in the other three. The item I used is this one.....

Desk-Mounted USB Hub for Home Accessories (Orico brand)
