Btw, do I need to make a new thread? My card is only at X8 instead of X16? Did HP install the card in the wrong slot for X16?

The X16 slot is closest to the CPU.

Its in the top slot. Both are suppose to be X16. So I have no idea what is going on. Might have to make a new thread. I know both slots would be X8 if I ordered it with SLI but, I ordered it with a single 1080 Ti only.

Hi

The X16 slot close to the CPU is X16.

SLI will run both cards in X8. This is the way 1151 chipset runs GPU's.

Sorry if its going above my head. So are you saying its operating as intended at X8 in the top slot closest to the cpu? Here is a pic how it looks. https://imgur.com/a/kd2jD

Oh I got ya. Top slot is 16 suppose to be running at 16. I have no idea what the problem could be that keeping it from running at X16.

The rig is lookin' good! The 1080 Ti is in the correct X16 slot. The first slot below the processor.

What program are you using to get PCIe link width info? Download CPUID (CPUZ).

Here is a screen shot (GPU-Z) on my system.

Your Bus Interface is showing showing PCIe x16 3.0@x8 3.0 One graphics card installed in the x16 slot should run at x16. Two x16 graphics cards in SLI will each run at 8x.

My Bus interface is PCIe x16 3.0@16 1.0.

You would have to talk to HP.

Link width is showing times X8 on mine in cpuz instead of X16.

Hi Fatty

The only things I can think of as to why the card is running at x8 are:

1. HP has modded the card,

2. HP has modded the chipset,

3. The Z370 chipset supports up to 24 lanes (Z300 Intel specs are here). You have other devices (PCIe M.2 NVME drives) connected to the MB which are using many PCIe lanes.

Swap in a different graphics card which you know runs at x16 when installed in a different MB. Check to verify. If a different card yields the same result then either: other devices are using lanes, or HP has modded the chipset.
