I have a few questions.

I'm currently have the omen 25l desktop, and it has the i710700 im curious to know if I could upgrade it to the i710700k so that I could possibly overclock it. Would I be able to do that without changing out the motherboard or would I also have to change out the motherboard. I tried using Intel xtu, but all I'm able to do is benchmark. I'm assuming that's because the cpu is locked. So I guess im asking if I wanted to upgrade it what would I have to do?

So in other words in order to be able to use a k series intel cpu I would have to change out my motherboard and cpu?

Not really. You have to change CPU. But for mother board, in many cases, you only need BIOS which supports different class of CPU's.

What do you mean bios? How would I change the bios? I've never heard of that.

[EDIT: the i7-10700K has too high of an TDP: 125 Watt, almost double the TDP of your current CPU. As pointed out below, your HP motherboard most likely would flag it as incompatible.]

Jack240, your i7-10700 has a very respectable average bench score of 94.1% (as per UserBenchMark [dot] com). For comparison, the i9-10900F bench score is 96.9%, but costs around $480~$520 as per eBay a minute ago, and would only increase your PC's CPU performance by a meager 2.8%. Therefore, from a cost-benefit perspective, my take is you should stick with the i7-10700, or -if it really matters to you, call your banker and dish out $500+ for an i9-10900F.

Per @banhien, this MB only supports 65 watt TDP CPUs. The 17-10700K is a 125 W TDP CPU.

The BIOS is not programmed for K series processors and you cannot overclock in the BIOS.

Hi Grzwacz ,indeed, I stand corrected: the Intel i7-10700K's TDP is too high.  I edited my previous response to reflect this correction.

You said, and I quote: "The BIOS is not programmed for K series processors and you cannot overclock in the BIOS."  -Even though it is true that Jack240's BIOS does not allow him to overclock, I disagree with the first statement.  For example, I was given an almost identical assertion about the incompatibility of the i7-3770K for HP Elite 8300 USDT and HP Pro 6300 SFF desktops. But lo and behold: the i7-3770K's are compatible.  Ironically, this message is reaching you from an HP Pro 6300 SFF fitted with an i7-3770K: HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF Performance Results - UserBenchmark
