Hi @Hunter85,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000a (2Z6C8AV) experienced a severe performance drop.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check for Overheating

  • Temperature Monitoring: Use a tool like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check if your CPU or GPU temperatures are excessively high. Overheating can cause the system to throttle performance.
  • Clean Fans and Vents: Ensure your PC is well-ventilated and that dust isn't blocking airflow. Clean any dust from your fans and vents.

2. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager, expand the "Display adapters" section, right-click on your graphics card, and select "Update driver."
  • Manufacturer's Website: Visit the graphics card manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your GPU.

3. Check for Background Processes

  • Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if any background processes are consuming excessive resources. End unnecessary processes.

4. Run a Virus Scan

  • Antivirus Software: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out any malware that could be affecting performance.

5. Verify Game Files

  • Game Launcher: If the issue occurs while playing a specific game, use the game launcher (like Steam, Epic Games, etc.) to verify the integrity of game files.

6. Check Power Settings

  • Power Plan: Ensure your PC is set to use a high-performance power plan. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select "High performance."

7. Update Windows

  • Windows Update: Ensure your operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

8. Reinstall Graphics Drivers

  • Clean Installation: Uninstall your current graphics drivers from Device Manager, restart your PC, and then reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

9. Check for System Errors

  • Event Viewer: Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu) and check for any system errors or warnings that might provide clues.

10. Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • HP Hardware Diagnostics: Use HP's built-in hardware diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues. You can access it by pressing Esc repeatedly when turning on your PC and selecting "Diagnostics."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
