I bought a custom built Omen desktop computer from HP in Aug. 2023. It came with Intel 13th gen processor. Obviously, there were issues with my computer from the time I got it, but could never seem to fix the issue. My warranty expired Aug 2024, around the time that the issue was supposed to be having a patch that would fix the issue. Since im a complete noob & have no idea what im doing, i wasnt able to get it working & just gave up.

Now im seeing that Intel is extending the warranty for 2 years. But since I got it built into my computer from HP, im trying to figure out what to do for help with this? Do I need to contact HP? Will they do anything at this point? Any info would be great! Thank you!

@devlyn999,

Summarizing:

  1. You got an HP Omen desktop with a 13th Gen Intel CPU, purchased August 2023.

  2. You have had persistent issues from the start, but your HP warranty expired August 2024.

  3. Intel has extended the CPU warranty for certain 13th Gen processors by 2 years.

  4. You are unsure whether HP will help now, since the system was purchased as a prebuilt desktop.

Discussion:

  1. Intel Warranty vs HP Warranty

    • Intel's extended warranty applies only to the CPU itself, not the entire PC.

    • HP's warranty covered the whole system (CPU, motherboard, RAM, etc.) for one year. Since that expired, however, HP isn't obligated to repair or replace parts unless there's a separate support program.

  2. Contacting HP Support

    • HP can check if your CPU is eligible for Intel’s extended warranty and may help facilitate an RMA with Intel.

    • Some users have successfully had HP handle Intel CPU replacements, but this depends on HP's support policies for prebuilt systems after the HP warranty ends.

  3. Contacting Intel Directly

    • Intel's standard consumer warranty allows you to file a claim directly if you purchased a CPU separately.

    • Please Note: for prebuilt PCs, Intel usually requires the OEM (HP) to handle the claim, since the CPU is installed in their system.

Recommended Steps:

  1. Gather Details

    • Serial number of the Omen desktop.

    • Exact Intel CPU model.

    • Description of the issue and any error messages.

  2. Contact HP Support

    • Explain that the CPU is eligible for Intel's extended warranty.

    • Ask if HP can initiate an RMA with Intel, even though your HP warranty has expired.

  3. Document Everything

    • Keep records of emails, chat transcripts, and case numbers.

    • This is helpful if Intel or HP asks for proof of purchase or warranty eligibility.

Key Points:

  • Yes, contact HP first. They're the gatekeeper for CPU replacements in prebuilt systems.

  • Intel's extended warranty is real, but HP usually needs to process it for a prebuilt PC.

  • Success isn't guaranteed, but providing complete details upfront increases the chances.

Thank you so much!! Since my HP warranty is expired, im not getting anywhere when trying to find a way to contact them. It just goes round & round, but theres no phone number to contact. Would you happen to know the correct number for me to call regarding this issue?

@devlyn999,

Absolutely, I understand the frustration of navigating automated systems without direct assistance. Here are the best ways to contact HP Support for your Omen desktop issue:

HP Support Phone Numbers:

Tips for Effective Communication:

  • Prepare Your Information:
Have your Omen desktop's serial number ready. You can find it:

    • On the back of the desktop beneath the barcode.

    • In the HP Support Assistant app, under the "My Devices" tab.

    • On the original packaging or receipt.

  • Be Clear and Concise:
Explain that you're experiencing issues with your Intel 13th Gen CPU and are seeking assistance under Intel's extended warranty.

  • Request Escalation if Necessary:
If the initial representative cannot assist, politely ask to be transferred to the Omen Premium Support team.
