@neej, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Which scan are you running on the PC?

If it is a SFC scan, it will take sometime before to complete the scan and repair the files.

If you are running an Anti-virus scan, the duration of the scan depends on the files and data you have on your PC

If you would like to test the hardware components of the PC due to any Blue screen errors,

Shutdown the computer using the power button (pressed and hold for a few seconds until PC powers off)

Power the computer back on.

As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin tapping the Esc before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu

Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

Note: Any scan performed on the PC would not take more than 2-3hrs

Let me know how this goes.
