Hello,
I have a Omen 35L with 16GB DDR5 ram and I would like to upgrade it to at least 32GB. The 16GB doesn't seem to be working out too well, however I think that HP support has suggested that I cannot replace or upgrade the RAM in this machine.
I've tried going by the documentation which suggests 6000mt rated Kingston Ram. P04628-H81 is the current part number in the machine. I tried adding in to additional 8GB sticks of 6000mt Kingston Fury UDIMMs in the 2 free slots and the machine would not boot. Even by themselves, it doesn't seem to like these sticks.
My question is (because this part is really hard to find anywhere) and if I want to step up to 32GB, does anyone know what Ram will actually work. I feel like I am restricted to HP products, but don't have any options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not worked with your PC's BIOS. Did you check to see if a memory overclocking option is available?
The latest BIOS update for your MB can be found Here.
I don't know if this update will fix the problem.
But it's something to consider.

Greetings @kimmel1975
Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your 35L appears to be the AMD version (GT16-0000a).
HP lists a 16 GB memory module for the AMD 35L at HP Part Surfer, part number P06688-002. But it is not available for purchase at HP Part Surfer or the HP Parts Store.
So that's a dead end at this time.
User Benchmark shows eighteen users having the Intel version of the 35L.
Scroll down to "User benchmarks for this system" at User Benchmark. I checked a few. The systems I checked seem to be using HP Kingston memory.
You can check all user benchmarks at User Benchmark to see the RAM: type and capacity. Again, there are no AMD 35L PCs listed at User Benchmark at this time.
So this could be another dead end.
Check Crucial Memory. Use the Scanner to see if Crucial has a 16 GB memory module at 6000 MT/s for your MB.
EDIT: I checked Crucial. This specific Crucial Link lists compatible memory upgrades for a GT16-0000a. All is not lost.
Do a two stick 16 GB or higher capacity memory kit for the best upgrade results. Don't mix the existing HP memory with Crucial memory.
I cannot guarantee you will get 6000 MT/s using Crucial memory.
You can also check this Site for additional compatible HP memory upgrade options if desired. Try the scanner to see if Memory Stock has any memory upgrade options for your PC's AMD MB.

Thank you very much for the response Bill_to. I did go to the Crucial Scanner and they did recommend a compatible memory replacement, which I will try. I just don't understand why HP is making it so hard.
The Machine clearly says upgradeable, but HP support pushed me in every different direction saying that I could not upgrade. I have ordered the crucial memory, so lets hope that works... I can report back here after

Greetings @kimmel1975
My pleasure.
Let the Forum know if you get 6000 MT/s after installing the Crucial memory.
And AMD Ryzen Master might be able to get AMD EXPO speeds if the Crucial memory runs at default (JEDEC) memory speed and timings.

Hi @Bill_To.
It is not even a question of speed. Any other Ram aside from the HP Branded ram and the machine won't even boot up. I just get a blank screen.
I just tried the Crucial 2x16GB Pro Series For Ryzen 7 Expo Ready, 6000mt/s 36-38-38-80 UDIMMs and with the HP Branded ram, it did not boot. Switched them to slots 2 and 4 where the HP branded ram was and by itself and same issue, no boot. Then back to the HP ran and i am back up again. This is the same thing that happened with the Kingston ram. It should work, but maybe this is why HP is so against upgrading these models

Greetings @kimmel1975
That's terrible news.
I have been directing HP Forum members to Crucial Memory for many years. I have never had negative feedback.
Try removing the CR2032 battery when the PC is disconnected from AC power.
Let the PC sit for five or more minutes. Reinstall the battery.
Try the Crucial memory again in slots two and four. Try one memory stick in slot two first.
Also, I previously checked the second site (Memory Stock). Memory Stock seems to be selling HP memory but not at 6000 MT/s. But doublecheck this as I checked this a while ago.
I probably would not try Memory stock seeing the problem you are having using Crucial memory modules.
I don't know why HP makes it so difficult to upgrade memory in a PC that's supposed to be upgradable. A memory upgrade should, at least, run at JEDEC speeds and timings.
And the kicker is you can't buy compatible memory modules from HP at this time.

Granted, HP apparently succeeded to engineer making HP-branded Kingston RAM to provide best RAM performance, but these non-HP branded 6000 MHz RAM kits will work in the OP's PC, albeit at a lower 4800 MHz -which is still plenty fast:
2x16GB Kingston Fury Beast KF560C36BBEAK2-32: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/69697774.
2x32GB Kingston Fury Beast KF560C36BBEAK2-64: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/70243376.

@Bill_To,
That is indeed what I did next -- I updated the BIOS and now it is accepting the Crucial Memory and booting up. Performance is showing at 3600mt/s. My next step is to see if I get can get better speed. OC is available on the BIOS, so I will give that a shot.

@kimmel1975can probably ramp up the Kingston Fury Beast memory speed to 6000 MT/s using Ryzen Master.
