Here is the solution to resolve the Stuttering During Gameplay with OMEN AI on OMEN MAX 16 Click here to view the instructions!

Count me in on this, though mine is a brand new (less than a week) 25L - GT12-1340m.

If I can get it to sleep, which it usually just refuses to do after a quick screen flicker, it won't wake up. AND, after I manually power it off I get an error (from BIOS, I think) saying that one of the fans in malfunctioning. I'm fairly certain this is a false alarm (about the fan) as it only happens after powering off during sleep and then is fine after reboot (tested with various GPU benchmarks).

Not a great experience, coupled with the absolutely idiotic flashing light during sleep, and (day after I received it) disabled ability to turn off rainbow color-cycling on the RAM modules, I'm starting to regret my purchase. C'mon HP. It's great you're offering these machines, but the support isn't so great. So far.

Hi @Dietlama

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Here's a breakdown of what's likely happening and some steps you can try:

Common Causes & Fixes

1. Sleep/Wake Issues

  • USB Power Management Conflict: Many users have resolved the wake issue by disabling power-saving features on USB controllers:

    • Open Device Manager (Win + R, type devmgmt.msc)
    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
    • For each item (especially USB Root Hub and Intel(R) eXtensible Host Controller😞
      • Right-click → Properties → Power Management
      • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
    • This has helped many users restore normal sleep/wake behavior .
  • BIOS/Driver Updates: Ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are fully up to date. HP has released firmware updates that address power management bugs.

  • Disable Fast Startup:

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
    • Uncheck Turn on fast startup

2. Fan Error (90B) After Forced Shutdown

  • This is likely a false positive triggered by the abrupt shutdown during sleep. The BIOS checks for fan RPMs on boot and may misread them if the system didn’t shut down cleanly.
  • If the fan error disappears after a normal reboot and your system passes stress tests, it's safe to assume the fan is functioning correctly .

3. Sleep Refusal (Flicker and No Sleep)

  • This could be caused by:
    • External devices (e.g., USB drives, peripherals)
    • Background processes or apps preventing sleep
    • Try running powercfg /requests in Command Prompt to see what’s blocking sleep.

Workarounds

  • Disable Sleep Mode: If the issue persists and you don’t need sleep mode, consider disabling it entirely and using hibernate instead.
  • Use Hibernate Instead:
    • powercfg -hibernate on (in Command Prompt as admin)
    • Set Hibernate as the default action for sleep in Power Options.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
