My sons pc is making a sound like the fan is making noise and then it just turns off.  Seems like the hp numbers I call get a third party.  Looking to see if it’s in warranty as I don’t know much about PCs.  It’s only 2 years old.  Anyone experience this and can recommend a fix.

@Ddare1 , welcome to the forum.

What is the full model or product number of the computer? I need this information to review the specifications of it. Please don't furnish the Serial # or other personal information. Here is a guide to help you find it:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07555

Once I have this information, I will try to help you further!

This sounds like a good time for your son and you to learn a bit about computers.  I always took every opportunity to work on them with my son and grandkids.

Unless you bought an extended warranty, the computer is no longer protected.  The standard HP warranty is for one year from dater of purchase.  Your computer was released in June, 2017.  This doesn't mean that you necessarily bought at that time.

The first thing that I would appreciate you doing is, open the side panel of the case.  Boot the computer and get as close as possible to see if you can tell where the strange noise originates.  Pay particular attention to the fans.
