OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0034
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to upgrade my Omen as much as possible. I am definitely going to do this over time, but I need help figuring out what parts are compatible and are the best to use.

These are my specs:

HP Edoras 84FD motherboard

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
500W Power Supply

Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable)
Device ID A4F937A2-C1F6-4599-9127-474221004757
Product ID 00325-81536-48166-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Windows 11

I changed the old RAM stick for two 16gb DDR4 2666MHz sticks, otherwise everything is the same as it was when I bought it.

@GoodBoiTobi,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

You have come to the right place, and I can recommend a number of sensible and effective upgrade steps for your system.

One of my recent upgrade projects was an OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-1xxx: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/Upgrading-an-OMEN-by-HP-Obelisk-Desktop-875-1xxx/m-p/9..., which is very similar to your PC.

Outstanding RAM upgrade: 2x16GB is all you need.

I would strongly recommend that you upgrade your processor to either an i7-9700K or an i7-9700KF.  Reason being, is that these particular "K" processors do not run excessively hot, perform exceptionally well gaming-wise, and last but not least you can purchase one of them for a steal these days via eBay, such as this $120 purchase option via a top-rated Trusted eBay Seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/146466556023?_skw=i7-9700KF&epid=12037393878&itmmeta=01JQ0P021PNQMP3KQMMVV3....

In case you wonder if an i7-9700K/F is compatible with your rig, rest assured, it is: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/55720734.

With a 500-watt power supply, you can upgrade your graphics card up to a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060 Ti powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this model: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asus-dual-rtx-4060-ti-oc.b11144.  This card runs pretty cool and has a low 160-watt TDP.

This GPU will run circles around your GTX 1660 Ti: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-4060-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660-Ti/4149vs4037.

Kind Regards,
