Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T03AV)

Hello everyone,

I currently have a Victus by HP 16.1 inch - 16-r0000 (76T03AV) gamer laptop.

I've just noticed a rather strange behaviour, the USB C port allows me to charge my PC, but only when it's switched off when I switch it on, the charging via this port automatically cuts out and nothing charges.

I've tried holding down the power button for 20-30 seconds, but to no avail.

I'd say it's more likely to be a driver problem, but all the HP software and driver updates tell me that everything's fine.

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Quentin.

Hi @Quentin996907,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with the USB-C port on your Victus by HP laptop. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Check Power Settings: Sometimes power settings can interfere with charging via USB-C. Make sure your power settings are configured to allow charging while the laptop is turned on. You can find these settings in your computer's control panel or settings menu.
  • Update Drivers: Even if the HP software indicates everything is fine, it's possible that there may be a driver issue causing the problem. Try manually updating the drivers for your USB-C port. You can typically find driver updates on the HP website under the support section for your specific laptop model.
  • BIOS Update: Sometimes BIOS updates can fix hardware-related issues. Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP website and follow the instructions to update it.
  • Test with Different Devices and Cables: Ensure that the issue is not with the charging cable or the device you're using to charge. Try using different USB-C cables and chargers to see if the problem persists.
  • Hardware Check: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible there may be a hardware problem with the USB-C port itself.
  • Reset BIOS Settings: If you're comfortable doing so, you can try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. This can sometimes resolve issues related to hardware configuration. Be cautious when making changes to BIOS settings, as incorrect settings can cause other problems.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with your USB-C charging port.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi  @Alden4

Thank you for your response.

I've already tested with several chargers of different wattages (40W, 65W and 96W), but so far without success.

I've already tried checking the drivers, but without success either. I don't know where else to find drivers specifically for the USB-C port itself (do you have the name of the driver that will be called that)?

As for the BIOS, it updated itself last week without success either, and for Windows updates, I use the option to do them as soon as they are released by Windows.

On the subject of a hardware failure, I have my doubts, given that the port charges when it's switched off, but no longer switched on, and on the other hand works when switched on to charge a smartphone or transfer data. I don't think that's the problem?

And regarding the BIOS reset, I've already done it several times by holding down the "power" button for 30 seconds, which also resets the CMOS, but without success and unless I'm mistaken, there's no option to enable or disable PC charging via USB-C in the BIOS options I've seen.

And the various diagnostics carried out don't seem to return any hardware problems, so I don't know what to do?

I'm going to try a 140 W USB-C charger in the next few days, but I'm not too hopeful about my problem.

If you ever want to take over the PC, no problem. Is it possible that it's a power problem, but that Windows doesn't display any message to indicate that the power is too low? And why does charging go off and stop immediately as soon as I switch on the PC, despite the charger still being plugged in?

If you ever have another solution or idea to try, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Quentin.
