Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02-0000i (491A7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I keep seeing a WMI warning (Event ID 63) in the Windows Event Viewer every time I restart my HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop (TG02-0000i). This happens at every restart and every startup (when fast startup is disabled).

The warning comes from Microsoft-Windows-WMI and says:

A provider, IntelMEProv, has been registered in the Windows Management Instrumentation namespace root\Intel_ME to use the LocalSystem account. This account is privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not correctly impersonate user requests.

Here’s the full event log:

Log Name: Application
Source: Microsoft-Windows-WMI
Event ID: 63
Level: Warning
User: SYSTEM
Computer: VICTUS
Description:
A provider, IntelMEProv, has been registered in the Windows Management Instrumentation namespace root\Intel_ME to use the LocalSystem account. This account is privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not correctly impersonate user requests.

I’d like to know:

  1. What is causing this warning?
  2. Is it something I should be concerned about?
  3. How can I fix or suppress it if it’s not critical?

I’m using Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26100.3476) , and my system is fully updated.

Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi @HaniRouatbi1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The WMI warning (Event ID 63) related to IntelMEProv is a common occurrence and typically not something to be overly concerned about.

Here's a breakdown of your questions:

1. What is causing this warning?

  • The warning is generated because the Intel Management Engine Provider (IntelMEProv) is registered in the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) namespace using the LocalSystem account. This account has elevated privileges, and the warning is a precautionary message indicating that improper use of these privileges could pose a security risk.
  • This warning often appears after updates to the Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) driver or related software.

2. Is it something to be concerned about?

  • Generally, this warning is not critical and can be safely ignored if your system is functioning normally. It is more of a notification than an error, and it does not indicate a malfunction or immediate security threat.
  • However, if you notice unusual behavior, such as system instability or performance issues, it might be worth investigating further.

3. How can I fix or suppress it?

  • Update Drivers: Ensure that your Intel Management Engine Interface driver is up to date. Visit the HP Support page for your Victus 15L Gaming Desktop and download the latest drivers.
  • Reinstall the Driver:
    1. Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select it).
    2. Expand System Devices and locate Intel Management Engine Interface.
    3. Right-click and select Uninstall Device. Restart your computer, and Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
  • Disable the Warning (if it's not critical):
    • Open Event Viewer and navigate to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > WMI-Activity > Operational.
    • Right-click on the log and select Disable Log. This will stop the warnings from appearing but won't resolve the underlying cause.
  • Rollback the Driver: If the warning started after a recent update, you can roll back to a previous version of the driver.
